Job Description

The Game Designer will design, document, and implement gameplay system and assets for our long‑running MMO. This role focuses on rapid iteration, clear communication, and collaboration with cross‑disciplinary partners. The ideal candidate brings strong systems thinking, an understanding of live game constraints, and the ability to deliver production‑ready assets. This position reports to the Lead Systems Designer. 

 

Responsibilities:

·         Design and implement new player assets such as powers, items, and rewards cleanly within existing MMO frameworks, progression loops, and technical limitations 

·         Balance game assets to ensure challenging yet fair gameplay - ensuring the assets align with the game’s existing balance levels, economy, and progression pacing

·         Producing clear, actionable design documentation including feature specs, user flows, tuning tables, edge‑case handling, and live‑ops considerations 

·         Partnering with engineering, UI, art, audio and production to ensure the assets are scoped appropriately and implemented to spec 

·         Implementing the system’s data layer directly in the game database, including creating new entries, updating existing tables, validating data structures, and ensuring all values align with design intent and engineering constraints 

 

Qualifications: 

·         Comfortable working in Unreal 3 

·         Experience generating and balancing game assets like powers, items, rewards, and game economy

·         Deep understanding of player motivation, engagement loops, and user experience

·         Ability to write concise, production‑ready documentation 

·         Exposure to analytics development from an implementation standpoint 

·         Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to propose multiple solutions to design challenges 

Nice to have

·         5+ years’ experience in game design 

·         Previous experience in Unreal 3

·         Experience designing or maintaining systems in a live-ops MMO 

·         Familiar with DC Universe Online

·         Familiar with DC comics
