Sr. System Engineer

Summary/ Objective:
Responsible for providing support to the Office of Marine and Aviation operations for those on site and remote and serves as point person during operational incidents and project implementation. Provides input into the development, implementation and execution of strategies, organizational initiatives and Tier 2 and Tier 3 support and collaboration. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • This role requires experience in VMWare virtual hosting environments, MS Windows Server 2016-2022 administration, Windows PowerShell scripting, Active Directory, and VDI 
  • Applicant should be able to design and develop complex solutions without assistance from peers 
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment and support Tier 3 team when needed 
  • Adaptability and thinking outside the box to meet complex customer requirement is key 
  • Requires a bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, 8 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree 
  • Experience supervising or mentoring others 
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in designing and managing a VMware virtual infrastructure, Microsoft products (Exchange, Powerscripting, AD, Window Server) and environments 
  • Experience with Scripting/Automation 
  • Experience with interacting with customers to handle service inquiries and problems 
  • Experience troubleshooting issues in a mixed configured growing environment 
  • Experience with server patch management methodologies for testing and deployment 
  • Exceptional time management skills 
  • Experience with support ticket management systems 
  • O&M of virtual environments, patching, updating anti-virus and resolving security vulnerabilities 
  • This could include but not limited to systems consolidation and integration, architecture designs and updates, site renovations and relocations 
  • Implement, upgrade/migrate, and maintain VMware hypervisor infrastructure to include technical hands-on support for the VMware platform 
  • Handle standard VMware engineer duties and recommend innovative and automated approaches wherever possible for infrastructure tasks 
  • Lead the triage and resolution of escalated, complex incidents, problems, or capacity concerns 
  • Responsible for maintaining daily operations, monitoring, problem identification/resolution of VMware server/systems, applications, and analyzing activity and performance ensuring system/application is providing optimum performance and availability 
  • Work across IT functional boundaries (other system administrators, SAN administrators, Network administrators, Database administrators, Security administrators etc.) with configuration, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrade and system management for optimum performance and reliability 
  • Research, document and recommend new system related technologies and as well as migration and upgrade paths that could enhance, improve, automate and provide more efficiency and or up-to-date technologies to the operational environment 
  • Build and maintain working relationships with clients, team members, vendors, and others involved in the projects. 
  • Display a wide degree of creativity and latitude; think independently and outside the box for solutions; use familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures; rely on varied yet sometimes limited experience and your own sound judgment to accomplish goals and perform a variety of tasks. 
  • Achieve continuing education requirements and stay current with the industry. 
  • Troubleshoot complex software, hardware, and server upgrade issues. 
  • Ability to perform and/or assist with the tasks in collaboration of Network engineers and technicians at all levels. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience

  • Four (4) year college degree in computer science or information systems, with at least five (5) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in; HyperV, Azure, and VMWare.
  • Must have experience in information technology and information security and working with monitoring systems, supporting auditing, incident response, and system health.
  • Must have experience with software and security architectures.
  • Must have direct, hands-on experience providing assistance to users, optimizing system operations, and monitoring IT enterprise systems.
  • Present solutions: design and install data networks at client locations. 
  • Provides technical expertise and assistance on escalated tickets; ensures critical issues are resolved to client satisfaction, meeting service level agreements. 
  • Monitor and summarize the progress of all projects.
  • Update client documentation in system. 
  • Experience with Scripting/Automation.
  • Experience with interacting with customers to handle service inquiries and problems. 
  • Experience troubleshooting issues in a mixed configured growing environment.
  • Experience with server patch management methodologies.
  •  Exceptional time management skills. 

Security Clearance Requirement: Public Trust 

Schedule: Monday - Friday (Hybrid) - Three (3) days onsite (required)
