Senior Director Engineering, Data & Analytics

About the Role 

At Razorpay, data is not a support function—it’s a core product enabler. 

We’re looking for a Senior Director – Data who can operate at the intersection of platform, product, and intelligence—someone who can build, scale, and own the entire data ecosystem across Data Engineering, Data Science, and Analytics. 

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll be expected to think like an architect, act like a builder, and lead like an owner. 

What You’ll Do 

Own the Data Vision 

• Define and drive a unified data strategy aligned with Razorpay’s product and business goals. 
• Build a roadmap that connects data platforms → ML capabilities → business outcomes. 
• Bring a strong POV on how AI/ML can unlock revenue, reduce risk, and improve customer experience. 

Build & Scale the Data Platform 

• Architect and scale a real-time, reliable, and self-serve data platform.
• Own the full data lifecycle:  Ingestion → Processing → Storage → Consumption
• Drive systems that are: Highly available, fault-tolerant, and low-latency
• Set the gold standard for: Data quality, governance, observability, and access 

Drive AI/ML as a First-Class Capability 

• Lead the development of production-grade ML systems, not just experiments. 
• Build solutions across: Fraud & risk, Personalization, Growth & optimization
• Champion strong MLOps practices to ensure models are scalable and reliable.
• Push the org from reporting → prediction → decisioning systems. 

Enable Data-Driven Culture 

• Build a best-in-class analytics function that powers decision-making across teams. ● Enable self-serve data for product, business, and ops teams. 
• Define and standardize north-star metrics and KPIs. 
• Drive a culture where every decision is backed by data, not intuition alone. Lead Like an Owner 
• Build and mentor a high-caliber team across DS, DE, and Analytics. ● Hire aggressively for talent density over headcount. 
• Operate with a high ownership mindset—you build it, you run it.

• Work closely with Product, Engineering, Risk, Finance, and Business teams. ● Translate ambiguous problems into structured data solutions. 
• Bring customer-first thinking into every data system built.

• Drive speed with quality—ship fast, iterate faster. 
• Set up strong mechanisms for: Incident management, RCA and reliability improvements
• Track impact through clear, outcome-driven metrics. 

What We’re Looking For 

Experience 

• 12–18 years across Data Engineering / Data Science / Analytics ● 5+ years leading large, high-performing teams 
• Proven experience in building data platforms and ML systems at scale

Technical Depth 

• Strong hands-on experience with: Big Data stack (Spark, Kafka, Hive, Presto), Cloud (AWS/GCP), Data Lakes, Warehouses , Real-time + batch systems 

• Solid grounding in: Machine Learning (end-to-end lifecycle), MLOps and production systems , Strong coding proficiency (Python + one more language)
