Join us on our mission to empower more people to find their way home by breaking barriers to entry, making the right connections, and building confidence through expert guidance.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer – News & Insights to join our growing News & Insights team. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape one of Realtor.com’s highest-traffic consumer experiences by building fast, resilient, content-rich products that reach millions of readers and syndication partners.

You will help drive the frontend experience while contributing across the full stack, partnering closely with Product, Design, and content stakeholders to build and expand consumer-facing features end to end. We’re looking for someone who wants to own a product, especially the frontend, thrives in highly collaborative environments, and is AI-forward in how they use modern tools to maximize impact.

Our platform pairs a React/Next.js frontend with a WordPress + WPGraphQL backend, supported by persisted GraphQL queries and a multi-layered caching architecture. In this role, you’ll help strengthen performance, reliability, developer experience, and the overall quality of a platform that powers one of Realtor.com’s most visible content surfaces.

We believe in leveraging the best tools to solve problems faster. You will be expected to use modern AI coding assistants and LLM-powered workflows effectively to accelerate development, improve quality, and increase velocity, while applying sound engineering judgment to validate outputs for correctness, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.

Join a growing team building cutting-edge products in an AI-forward environment by providing frontend expertise and technical ownership. This role is a strong fit for an engineer who wants visible product ownership, meaningful influence on architecture and user experience, and the opportunity to work on a high-scale platform where performance, SEO, accessibility, and editorial velocity all matter.

What you’ll do:

Product Ownership & Frontend Experience

  • Build and expand consumer-facing features across the full stack, with a strong emphasis on delivering high-quality frontend experiences in React and Next.js.

  • Create modular, performant, responsive, and accessible components and pages in collaboration with Design System, Product, and content teams.

  • Take ownership of the user experience for key product surfaces and help evolve the frontend architecture, standards, and best practices.

Full-Stack Platform Development

  • Develop and extend the platform’s data layer, including GraphQL queries and schema, persisted-query workflows, Node.js services, and the API surface between the frontend and CMS.

  • Work comfortably across frontend and backend systems to solve product and platform challenges end to end.

  • Improve developer experience and platform health through intuitive APIs, strong documentation, observability, and reduced operational friction.

Performance, Reliability & Scale

  • Own and improve caching and rendering architecture, including ISR, CDN and edge caching, and object caching, to keep content fresh while serving it quickly at scale.

  • Drive SEO and Core Web Vitals improvements on a high-traffic, search-driven content property where page speed and discoverability directly impact the business.

  • Ensure code is well-tested using unit, component, and end-to-end testing practices.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical guidance through code reviews, design discussions, and day-to-day collaboration across engineering and business partners.

  • Research opportunities to improve existing systems and processes, build proofs of concept, and communicate technical ideas and trade-offs clearly to both engineering and business audiences.

  • Contribute to team planning, roadmap discussions, Agile ceremonies, and incident-response or operational practices.

What you’ll bring:

Experience & Expertise

  • 5+ years of web development experience with strong knowledge of modern JavaScript or TypeScript and frameworks such as React and Next.js.

  • Strong experience building high-quality consumer web experiences and solving problems across both frontend and backend systems.

  • Solid backend experience in one or more languages such as Node.js, PHP, Python, Java, or Ruby, with comfort designing APIs and reasoning about server-side behavior.

  • Experience with GraphQL, including schema design, queries, and clients, or a strong API foundation with eagerness to go deep in GraphQL.

  • Experience using AI-forward development practices and modern tooling to maximize quality and velocity.

Technical Skills

  • Frontend: React, Next.js, TypeScript, modern CSS approaches, responsive layouts, accessibility, and performance optimization.

  • APIs & Data: GraphQL, persisted queries, schema design, and API integration between frontend systems and CMS platforms.

  • Performance & Delivery: Core Web Vitals, SEO best practices, SSR, SSG, ISR, caching strategies, and debugging browser or layout issues.

  • Testing & Tooling: Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright, and modern build tooling such as webpack, Babel, or SWC.

  • Cloud & CI/CD: Familiarity with AWS services and modern CI/CD ecosystems such as CloudFront, ECS/EKS, S3, CircleCI, ArgoCD, or Kubernetes.

Professional Qualities

  • Wants to own a product, especially the frontend

  • Extremely collaborative and able to work directly with Product and cross-functional stakeholders

  • AI-forward, using modern tools to maximize impact

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to diverse audiences.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to performance, reliability, accessibility, and great user experiences.

  • Growth mindset and comfort working in ambiguity while helping shape short- and long-term technical direction.

Direct WordPress experience is not required. What matters most is that you are a strong full-stack engineer with a frontend-forward mindset who is comfortable working in backend codebases regardless of language.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
