About Stealth Startup
We're launching a new startup that is redefining how mission-critical organizations adopt AI. Our platform helps organizations across healthcare, government, and other regulated industries transform institutional knowledge into intelligence assets that improve the accuracy, reliability, and impact of AI in real-world workflows. We're a fast-moving team of builders, researchers, and operators working to help customers create, measure, and continuously improve AI capabilities they can own and control.
About the Role
We are seeking a Member of Technical Staff, Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with enterprise customers, develop a deep understanding of their businesses and workflows, and translate their operational needs into production-grade AI solutions.
This is a remote, United States-based role that combines software engineering, AI development, solution design, and customer engagement. You will work within customer environments as part of a small deployment team, owning the full technical lifecycle from defining the problem and building data pipelines to designing evaluations, deploying AI agents, and iterating against measurable goals. Travel to customer locations will be required as needed.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with enterprise customer teams to understand their businesses, operating environments, and workflows.
- Translate real operational needs into clearly defined, AI-driven solutions.
- Own the end-to-end design, development, deployment, and improvement of production-grade AI agents tailored to customer-specific problems.
- Build the data pipelines, integrations, and supporting systems required to deploy AI solutions within customer environments.
- Develop evaluation systems that measure agent performance and use the results to drive continued improvement.
- Translate complex business requirements into technical architectures, implementation plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Develop deep expertise in customer domains and apply that knowledge to improve the relevance and performance of the AI systems you build.
- Partner closely with Product, Platform, Research, and Engineering teams to deliver reliable, cohesive solutions.
- Identify and codify reusable engineering practices, agent patterns, and technical frameworks that can support future deployments.
- Translate lessons from customer deployments into actionable feedback for platform and product teams.
- Diagnose technical and operational challenges in customer environments and drive issues through resolution.
- Communicate technical decisions, progress, risks, and results clearly to customer stakeholders and internal teams.
About You
- You are a strong engineer who enjoys working directly with customers to solve complex, real-world problems.
- You can move fluidly between understanding a customer's broader business challenge and working through the technical details required to solve it.
- You are comfortable entering unfamiliar environments, learning quickly, and bringing structure to ambiguous problems.
- You take ownership of outcomes and remain accountable through implementation, deployment, and continued improvement.
- You focus on building solutions that work in practice, not simply producing prototypes or demonstrating technical possibilities.
- You communicate clearly with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders and can build trust with senior customer leaders.
- You approach customer engagement with curiosity, sound judgment, and an ability to listen before prescribing a solution.
- You are comfortable balancing immediate customer needs with the development of reusable technical patterns and systems.
- You work effectively across engineering, product, research, and operations teams.
- You are motivated by the purpose and real-world impact of the work, not simply by access to emerging technologies.
- You are comfortable traveling to customer environments as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full-stack development with strong backend engineering capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience building and shipping AI applications in production environments.
- Strong understanding of AI agent architectures, evaluation methodologies, and the systems required to develop and operate AI agents reliably.
- Experience developing scalable backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and system integrations.
- Ability to design evaluation systems and use performance data to guide technical iteration.
- Experience translating business and operational requirements into technical solutions.
- Ability to move between solution architecture, hands-on implementation, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers or stakeholders in complex or ambiguous environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer locations as required.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Salary Range: $150,000-300,000 + equity. This represents the typical base salary range for this position based on experience, skills, and other factors.
