Senior Software Engineer, Release Infrastructure

The mission of the Developer Experience org is to design, develop, and support tools and processes that make common developer workflows efficient and reliable. This role is specific to the Release Infrastructure team, which owns continuous integration, continuous deployment, source control, code review, code search, and a subset of internal developer tools.

Some of our present and future challenges include:

  • Identifying and working on opportunities to improve developer efficiency, confidence, and service reliability.
  • Building tools and infrastructure that makes writing, testing, and shipping code easy.
  • Architecting and building the experience of continuous delivery for hundreds of engineers.
  • Scaling our infrastructure and processes to serve a growing Reddit Engineering organization.
  • Building a solid understanding of customer’s needs and identifying opportunities for improvements.
  • Investigating, building, and integrating novel technologies (e.g. Generative AI) to solve problems for our developers.

As a senior engineer on this team, you’ll be immediately responsible for building and driving a vision for our developer experience from the first line of code to the artifact released at the end of the process. You’ll draw on your technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure our developer tooling is smooth, easy to use, and provides maximum value to an ever growing engineering organization. You’ll look for ways to engage with the engineering org, striving to understand users' pain points and perspectives, and to incorporate their feedback into designs and plans, presenting and sharing the team’s accomplishments.

What You’ll Do:

  • Steer: Work with the team to select, scope, and drive high leverage projects that align with Reddit’s goals.
  • Build: Execute on a strategy and create a more performant, more scalable, higher quality architecture around developer experience, including service frameworks, development environments, version control, CI and deployment tooling.
  • Amplify: Mentor, coach, and collaborate with other technical contributors 
  • Collaborate: Work together with a variety of cross functional teams across Reddit Engineering.
  • Evolve: Learn and improve your own technical and non-technical abilities.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience identifying and driving high impact projects that align with the company’s strategy.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in large-scale distributed systems and experience developing and improving highly scalable and reliable serving systems.
  • Experience working in the developer experience or developer productivity spaces, and experience working on developer tools, libraries, and frameworks.
  • Experience with CI / CD tools (Drone, BuildKite, Github Actions, Argo Workflows/Rollouts/CD, Temporal, and other similar tools).
  • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud providers (AWS, GCP).
  • A track record of leading large scale projects that require cross-team and cross-functional collaboration.
  • High empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence decisions while working across the entire engineering org.
  • Strong focus on user experience, usability, scalability, and quality.
  • History of mentorship and technical leadership.

This job posting may span more than one career level.

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including, skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below.

The base pay range for this position is:

$190,800 - $267,100 USD
