Engineering Manager, Top of Funnel

The Top of Funnel team is key to user growth. By combining our knowledge of search engines, with an eye for the best user experiences we have the opportunity to introduce Reddit to new and unfamiliar users and transform them into deeply engaged users. 

As the Engineering Manager for the Top of Funnel team at Reddit, you will lead a full-stack team responsible for building UIs, APIs, and foundation backend systems to support web crawling and deliver an exceptional guest user experience. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a strong drive to understand and fulfill customer needs.

Location:

Reddit is continuing to grow our teams with the best talent. This role is completely remote friendly. However, to accommodate the distributed nature of the SEO team and the rest of Reddit’s workforce, candidates in Ireland(Dublin) or UK(London) are preferred.

What You’ll Do:

Execution

You will own the execution of your team’s roadmap and be accountable for consistent, predictable delivery. You will ruthlessly prioritize both planned projects and emergent asks. You will work closely with Tech Leads on project management and empower your team to execute autonomously. You will identify risks and proactively communicate them both internally and externally.

Recruiting

Our engineering managers are directly responsible for scaling up their teams. You will identify your team’s needs, write job descriptions, source, interview, and help close candidates. You will have the support of our incredible recruiting team to bring diverse and talented engineers into Reddit. 

Career Development

You will help your engineers identify career goals and create development plans to achieve them. You will constantly seek opportunities to push your engineers outside their comfort zone and turn followers into leaders.

Quality Control

You will work with your team to develop processes and tooling that constantly improve the quality of our products and systems, ensuring that they meet product requirements, customer needs, and SLAs.

Organizational Alignment

You will serve as a thought partner to product and upper management to ensure your team’s plans align with company goals. You will become an expert in Search Engine Optimization and other Top-of-funnel channels and our customer needs. You will participate in and challenge prioritization decisions. You will communicate your team’s work and set expectations with external stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For:

• 5+ years of experience in backend or full stack product development
• 2+ years experience in people management of high-performing engineering teams
• You're highly technical, enough to solve almost any problem your team has yourself, but you prefer to guide your team into solving them.
• Ability to work independently. You’ll be working at a company that’s mostly based in North America. You need to be able to make decisions and solve problems autonomously.
• Excellent communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully-remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
