Mechanical Engineering Intern, Big Machines
About Redwood Materials
Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling — keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition. Founded in 2019, we’re delivering low-cost and large-scale energy storage and producing battery materials in the U.S. for the first time, all from batteries we already have.

- Get hands-on experience building large, complex mechanical assemblies
- Support testing and validation of machinery and mechanisms
- Participate in troubleshooting and improving existing equipment and processes
- Help prepare engineering documentation, drawings, and reports
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including controls, production, and fabrication
- Learn and apply core engineering first principles in a fast-paced, real-world environment
- Assist in the design and modeling of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks
Desired Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
- Strong interest in mechanical design, manufacturing, and sustainability
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work hands-on in both office and production settings
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to approach problems analytically and apply engineering fundamentals in real-world scenarios
- Exposure to Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS, with a basic understanding of stress, thermal, or modal analysis
- Experience with fabrication, prototyping, or hands-on mechanical projects
- Interest in automation, sensors, or basic electrical systems
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Must maintain regular and punctual attendance in alignment with company and regulatory standards.
- Must be able to communicate clearly.
Working Conditions:
- Split work environment between office and the production facility.
