Staff Global Supply Manager - Solar, Energy Storage

San Francisco, California, United States

About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 by JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, on a simple but radical idea: the critical minerals powering the energy transition already exist. They just need to come back. Today Redwood is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America — recovering, refining, and redeploying critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. On the energy side, Redwood has deployed the largest second-life battery project in the world, delivering power to AI data centers in months rather than years using proprietary energy architecture engineered entirely in-house. The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it.

Position Summary:

The Staff Global Supply Chain Manager, Solar is an advanced-level individual contributor role that directs sourcing strategy for solar cell and solar module commodities supporting Redwood’ novel energy storage and generation products. The role owns the supplier landscape, total cost of ownership, and commercial agreements for these commodities, and determines sourcing methods on new assignments where no established precedent exists. Working with Engineering, Finance, and Manufacturing, the role aligns supplier selection and delivery plans with design, ramp, and cost targets. This is a fully on-site role at 100 Hooper, with approximately 10-25% international travel to supplier sites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and direct the sourcing strategy for solar cell and module commodities, including supplier landscape assessment, make-vs-buy, dual sourcing, and localization decisions
  • Understand and broadcast the ever-evolving landscape of tariffs, duties, production credits, etc. related to solar cell and module commodities in the U.S. and broader international impacts
  • Identify, qualify, and develop strategic suppliers of solar cells, modules, and related components
  • Lead RFQ and RFP efforts, negotiate commercial terms, and establish master supply agreements, statements of work, and pricing agreements
  • Build and maintain should-cost and total cost of ownership models to inform negotiations and reduce landed cost
  • Guide Engineering and Manufacturing on supplier readiness for new product introduction builds and mass production ramp
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve escalations in quality, cost, and delivery
  • Advise cross-functional partners on lead time, inventory, and supply risk across the product lifecycle

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Economics, or a related technical field (Master's degree or MBA preferred)
  • 8+ years of sourcing or supply chain management experience (6+ years with a Master's degree), ideally in solar, energy, EV, or electronics manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of solar cell and module manufacturers and the global solar supplier landscape
  • Working knowledge of solar cell and module manufacturing processes, cost drivers, and process constraints
  • Experience building cost models and negotiating commercial and technical terms with suppliers using should-cost fundamentals
  • Experience developing commodity strategy and sourcing agreements for new products moving from development to volume production
  • Ability to travel internationally to supplier sites approximately 10-25% of the time
