About the role

We are seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) to join project44's Decision Intelligence Platform team. As an FDSE, you will work directly with our enterprise customers to understand their most complex supply chain challenges and configure our Movement platform to deliver transformative business outcomes. This role combines the technical depth of a software engineer with the strategic thinking of a startup CTO, requiring you to own end-to-end execution of high-stakes supply chain transformation projects.

You'll be embedded with global companies, either physically or virtually, helping them leverage project44's Decision Intelligence Platform to move from reactive supply chain management to proactive, AI-driven orchestration and automation.

What You’ll Do:

Customer Engagement & Solution Design

  • Work directly with enterprise customers to rapidly understand their most critical supply chain challenges and business objectives
  • Design and implement custom solutions using project44's Decision Intelligence Platform, including AI agents, workflow automation, and predictive analytics
  • Collaborate with customer executives, supply chain leaders, and technical teams to establish strategic roadmaps for supply chain transformation
  • Translate complex business requirements into technical solutions leveraging our Connect-See-Act-Automate framework

Technical Implementation & Integration

  • Configure and deploy enterprise-grade implementations of project44's Movement platform
  • Integrate with customer TMS, ERP, and WMS systems using our extensive API ecosystem (5,000+ connected companies)
  • Develop custom workflows, dashboards, and automation rules tailored to specific customer operations
  • Implement AI-powered solutions including MO (our AI Supply Chain Assistant), predictive ETAs, and autonomous booking/rerouting capabilities

Data Engineering & Analytics

  • Work with massive-scale supply chain data to build end-to-end visibility solutions across ocean, ground, air, and rail transportation modes
  • Design and implement data pipelines that clean, validate, and contextualize information from carriers, systems, and sensors
  • Create predictive models and analytics that enable proactive decision-making and exception management
  • Optimize data quality and carrier connectivity to ensure reliable, actionable intelligence

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Own end-to-end execution of high-stakes customer implementations with minimal supervision
  • Work in small, agile teams to deliver solutions that drive measurable business impact
  • Manage project timelines, stakeholder communications, and technical deliverables
  • Ensure successful go-live and adoption of supply chain automation capabilities

Product Development Collaboration

  • Share technical insights and customer feedback with product development teams to influence platform roadmap
  • Contribute to the development of new features and capabilities based on field deployment experiences
  • Participate in engineering reviews, code reviews, and best practice development
  • Help scale successful customer solutions into platform capabilities for broader use
  • Ensure implementation is in line with p44 architecture and coding standards

What You’ll Need (required):

Technical Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or related technical field
  • 3+ years and 8+ years of relevant software engineering experience, depending upon the level (hiring multiple levels) with strong coding proficiency in Python, Java, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar languages
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), and API development
  • Familiarity with data processing frameworks, databases, and ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Understanding of web application development, both frontend and backend

Supply Chain & Logistics Knowledge

  • Experience with or strong interest in supply chain, logistics, or transportation management
  • Understanding of TMS, ERP, WMS systems and their integration challenges
  • Familiarity with supply chain data standards (EDI, API formats) and carrier connectivity
  • Knowledge of multi-modal transportation (ocean, ground, air, rail) operations preferred

Customer-Facing Skills

  • Proven ability to work directly with enterprise customers and technical stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments with evolving objectives and direct customer iteration

AI & Machine Learning

  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and their application to business problems
  • Understanding of predictive analytics, time series forecasting, and optimization algorithms
  • Familiarity with large language models and AI agent frameworks preferred
  • Interest in developing AI-powered automation solutions

What You’ll Need (preferred):

  • Experience with supply chain optimization, network planning, or logistics software
  • Previous consulting or customer-facing technical role experience
  • Knowledge of sustainability and emissions tracking in supply chains
  • Familiarity with Palantir, similar data platforms, or enterprise software deployment
  • Experience with real-time data processing and event-driven architectures
  • Understanding of global trade, customs, and regulatory requirements

Travel Requirements: This role requires approximately 25-50% travel to customer sites for implementations, training, and ongoing support. Travel may be domestic and international depending on customer base and project requirements.
