About The Role

As a Software Engineer at Relay with a focus on security, you’ll be responsible for building and securing the next generation of mobile freight payments. You’ll help ensure the safety, privacy, and integrity of our platform while enabling seamless and secure experiences for our customers. You'll design and implement security best practices, mitigate risks, and proactively enhance the security posture of our systems.

• Own the design, planning, execution, and testing of security-focused features and projects, delivering reliable and secure software that protects customer data.
• Identify vulnerabilities, risks, and security issues in both existing and new systems, proactively implementing fixes and safeguards.
• Estimate security projects and deliver on those estimations while balancing usability and security trade-offs.
• Work across the entire stack to ensure security is embedded in every layer of our technology.
• Collaborate effectively with multiple teams, including Product, Design, and Infrastructure, to integrate security measures without compromising performance or user experience.
• Stay up to date with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices.
• Participate in security incident response, investigations, and forensic analysis.
• Develop security documentation, guidelines, and policies for internal teams.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a product security specialization.
• Deep understanding of secure coding principles, cryptography, and application security.
• Knowledge of IAM (Identity and Access Management), OAuth, JWT, and SAML.
• Familiarity with cloud security (especially AWS) and container security (Docker).
• Knowledge of zero-trust security architectures and secure API development.
• Detail-oriented systems thinker who can work well independently or with others on a team.
• Ability to maintain flexibility and weigh business and technical priorities.
• Experience architecting solutions in a thoughtful way - limiting the number of technologies, justifying decisions, and articulating tradeoffs.
• Ability to execute on determined design decisions.
• Good written and oral communication skills to help educate others in the organization about changing processes and frameworks.
• A solid understanding of software testing strategies.

Systems and Frameworks

As part of this role, you will be working with several systems and frameworks at Relay. We are looking for engineers who have deep experience in the following areas:

• Golang
• PostgreSQL
• Service-oriented architectures
• Dependency Injection and Inversion of Control (IoC)
• SOLID architecture design principles
