Now, here's what we're building, and where you come in.

About the Role

Value Engineering at Relay is the bridge between frontline operational reality and enterprise investment decisions. Our Value Engineers parachute into a prospect's world, learn how they operate, and build the financial case that proves Relay's ROI at the C-suite level. This is analytical, customer-facing, high-stakes work. This internship puts you in the middle of it.

The Value Engineering Internship is a two-phase opportunity: a Spring semester engagement (January start, part-time) that potentially feeds into a full-time 40-hour/week Summer internship for top performers. Both phases are on-site at Relay's world-class Raleigh HQ, located near the Lenovo Center.

Strong performance creates a pathway to a return offer for a Summer or Fall 2027 internship and full-time consideration upon graduation, based on business needs.

You'll work directly with our Manager, Value Engineering, and the broader GTM org. This includes Account Executives, Customer Success Managers, and senior leadership — on live enterprise deals.

About the Team

The Value Engineering team exists to close two critical gaps: leadership isn't always in touch with the factory floor, and new technology doesn't always translate into operational impact. We bridge both by quantifying Relay's value proposition, building investment-grade business cases, and acting as a forcing function for customer ROI. Our work shapes the enterprise sales motion, customer relationships, product roadmap, and company strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of executive-level business cases that translate frontline operational data into P&L-level ROI.
  • Map prospect workflows and analyze operational metrics to identify Relay's highest-impact use cases.
  • Build financial models that quantify the value Relay delivers across manufacturing, logistics, hospitality, and healthcare.
  • Partner with AEs and CSMs on pilot strategies and account planning for key enterprise opportunities.
  • Conduct research on industry operations and competitive benchmarks to strengthen Relay's value narratives.
  • Assist in developing internal tools, ROI frameworks, and proofs-of-concept that scale across the sales org.
  • Synthesize customer and field insights to support product roadmap and pricing strategy conversations.
  • Contribute to the company's wildly well-attended intern showcase — presenting your work to Relay's full team at summer's end.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Expected graduation between December 2027 and May 2029.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.7
  • No employer work authorization sponsorship available — candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; comfortable building models and working with data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication — ability to synthesize complexity into a clear, executive-ready narrative.
  • Available to work onsite at Relay's Raleigh HQ (near the Lenovo Center) for both the Spring engagement and the full-time Summer program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework or project experience in operations research, systems engineering, supply chain, or financial analysis.
  • Exposure to manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, or hospitality environments through coursework, co-op, or personal experience.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel, Python, SQL) and/or data visualization.
  • A genuine curiosity about how physical-world businesses operate and where technology creates real impact.

What success and impact look like in this role

By the end of the Spring engagement, you've shipped at least one analysis or framework that's been used in a live enterprise deal. By mid-summer, you're running financial models and contributing to business cases with real ownership — not just support. By the final showcase, you've presented work that a senior leader would put in front of a Fortune 500 prospect.

Top performers earn a return Summer or Fall 2027 internship offer and are on the radar for full-time consideration upon graduation.

What Makes This Internship Different

  • Executive exposure: Regular touchpoints with Relay's senior leadership team, including Q&A sessions, Breakfast with the CEO, and working sessions.
  • Real ownership: You'll own a project from kickoff to final presentation — not a shadow assignment.
  • Cross-functional cohort: Work alongside interns from across the business, not just your team.
  • Structured learning: Skill-building sessions covering financial modeling, operations strategy, sales craft, and professional development.
  • Intern showcase: Present your work to the full company at the end of the summer.
  • Raleigh HQ experience: Team lunches, volunteer Intern Impact Day, social events, and a front-row seat to how a scaling tech company operates.
  • Pathway that matters: This isn't a résumé builder for its own sake. Strong performers get return offers and full-time pipeline consideration.
