Director of Project Execution

Wixom, Michigan, United States

Remora is hiring a Director of Project Execution to lead and scale customer deployments of Remora’s carbon capture systems nationwide. This leader will own the end-to-end execution strategy for site deployments — from front-end engineering and permitting through construction, commissioning, and turnover — ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget. The Director will serve as both an operational leader and senior customer partner, building trusted relationships while developing the scalable systems, partners, and processes required for rapid multi-site growth.

We're building modular carbon capture systems for vehicles — turning exhaust into beverage-grade CO2 sold to breweries and greenhouses. We deploy in regions facing severe CO2 shortages, where prices are highest, allowing us to generate high margins without tax credits or carbon credits.

We've signed up some of the largest companies in the world to pilot our technology, including iconic multibillion-dollar brands, top trucking companies, and some of the most recognizable Fortune 100 companies. We’ve raised multiple rounds of funding from top investors like Lowercarbon Capital, Union Square Ventures, First Round Capital, Y Combinator, and Valor Equity Partners.

Responsibilities

Plan & Develop

  • Own the overall deployment strategy and execution model for customer site programs as the company scales installations nationally.
  • Lead Front-End Loading (FEL) activities, including preliminary engineering, scope definition, cost estimating, risk identification, and development of integrated master project schedules.
  • Oversee permitting and regulatory approval strategies to proactively manage risks and timeline certainty.
  • Direct coordination with AE firms, EPC partners, and internal engineering teams to design site layouts, infrastructure, utilities, and system integration plans.
  • Establish scalable deployment playbooks while defining clear handoffs to operations and maintenance teams to ensure long-term site performance without overextending the execution function.
  • Partner with commercial leadership to evaluate technical feasibility during customer development and identify opportunities to expand long-term partnerships.

Execute

  • Provide executive oversight of deployment activities end-to-end, from engineering through construction, commissioning, start-up, and substantial completion/turnover.
  • Lead engineering and construction partner selection processes, including RFP development, bid evaluation, and contractor qualification.
  • Negotiate contracts (T&M and lump sum), ensuring appropriate risk allocation, commercial protections, and performance incentives.
  • Oversee contractors, vendors, and cross-functional internal teams to meet scope, schedule, safety, quality, and budget targets.
  • Implement structured commissioning, QA/QC, and start-up plans to ensure systems meet performance requirements at first deployment.
  • Ensure construction turnover processes are completed thoroughly, including documentation, as-builts, testing records, and operational readiness.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks to avoid schedule delays, cost overruns, or safety impacts.
  • Travel regularly to customer sites to oversee execution and resolve critical field challenges.

Collaborate

  • Serve as the senior customer-facing leader for deployment programs, providing executive-level updates and building trusted relationships.
  • Partner with engineering, EHS, operations, controls, and commercial teams to ensure deployments meet technical, safety, and contractual standards.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, utilities, regulators, and contractors to streamline permitting, construction, inspections, and interconnections.
  • Ensure successful controls and system integration with customer infrastructure, including alignment on data, safety interlocks, and operational interfaces.
  • Lead or participate in HAZOP and other process safety reviews to ensure safe system integration and regulatory compliance.

Grow

  • Build and lead the project execution function as installations scale, including developing standards, governance structures, and external partner networks.
  • Develop repeatable deployment models, templates, cost benchmarks, and scheduling frameworks to support multi-site growth.
  • Capture and document lessons learned to continuously improve deployment efficiency, safety, and cost performance.
  • Coordinate closely with operations leadership to ensure training and O&M readiness are structured appropriately without compromising execution velocity.
  • Support long-term customer success by identifying opportunities for repeat deployments and expanded programs.

Design

  • Contribute to process improvements by documenting lessons learned and standardizing practices.
  • Ensure technical requirements are aligned with both customer needs and regulatory frameworks.
  • Help optimize site deployment models for efficiency and repeatability.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of experience in project or program leadership roles, ideally in energy, infrastructure, industrial systems, or large-scale hardware deployments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading EPC-style projects, including FEL engineering, estimating, integrated scheduling, and field execution.
  • Proven track record managing engineering and construction partner selection, contract negotiation (T&M and lump sum), and construction oversight.
  • Experience implementing commissioning, QA/QC, start-up, and turnover processes for complex industrial systems.
  • Strong understanding of permitting, construction management, controls integration, and mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Experience participating in or leading HAZOP and process safety reviews.
  • Strong executive-level customer presence with the ability to build trust and manage expectations.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for large capital projects.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Here’s what we value:

  • Mission First: We are laser-focused on our mission. We have chosen to take on the defining challenge of our time, and we don’t shy away from the hard decisions required to put our mission first, no matter how tough. The world needs our technology and it won’t happen any time soon if we don’t make it happen. We are a low-ego team, and we prioritize the mission over our self-interest. We think strategically with an eye to the long term, and we clearly separate what must be done well now, and what can be improved later, despite ambiguity.
  • Burning Urgency: Our hard-core intensity and work ethic match the crisis we’re in. We have a strong bias toward action, and we execute with focus and speed. In the absence of guidance, we take charge, lead our teammates, and accomplish our goals. We aren’t afraid to change course when something isn’t working, and we find solutions even when it seems like there are none. We are cool under pressure, and our quiet determination and drive are unwavering. We relentlessly push ourselves and each other to improve. We don’t accept adequate performance. Excellence is the expectation. Many would say our standards are unreasonably high, and many would say our goals are unreasonably bold, but we are hungry to be exceptional. We will never give up, no matter what. If we get knocked down, we get back up, every time. We will not fail.
  • Uncompromising Honesty: We are always honest with ourselves, our teammates, our customers, our investors, our suppliers, our communities, and all of our partners, especially about what’s not going well and what we don’t know. When we see issues, risks, or challenges, we speak up, and when we make mistakes, we admit them proactively and take full accountability. We challenge others directly when we disagree, even when it’s uncomfortable, and we seek this uncompromising honesty from others.
  • Treat People Exceptionally Well:We care intensely about everyone who is on this mission with us, and our standard is exceptional respect for our teammates, partners, and communities. Teammates who bring different perspectives and backgrounds are essential to our success, and we empower everyone to share their voice. We listen to truly understand. We constantly encourage and help our teammates, and inspire each other with our enthusiasm and optimism.
  • Joyful Curiosity: We love to learn, and we learn quickly. We explore the unknown with wonder and excitement. We reason from first principles. We generate original ideas with an open mind and test them quickly in the real world. We take risks and adapt as we discover more. We explore many ideas in parallel, and we don’t count on a silver bullet solution. We share our ideas freely with our teammates. We are skeptical about conventional wisdom, and we question every assumption and requirement. We are always looking for ways to simplify. We are rigorous and attentive to detail. We are eager to understand all aspects of our business and technology, and we contribute effectively outside our individual specialties. We never stop learning.
