The Staff Product Designer position for Payroll

This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global employment space as a Staff Product Designer - Payroll. Staff designers are IC leaders at Remote who can effectively drive the excellence of the product across several teams or a large, important area.

The payroll team helps build experiences that empower our customers to pay anyone, anywhere safely and compliantly. This is one of our most strategically important and high profile teams at Remote. Here you will be challenged as a designer in the best possible way - this role is filled with fascinating, complex and meaty challenges that require primary research, robust strategy, innovative concepts and simple but brilliant execution.

You will work with a thriving cross-discipline team of designers, developers and PMs and with a talented, close-knit team of product designers who will inspire you and support your growth. The design team is a talented and growing community of designers who are maturing Remote’s end-to-end design practice.

What We Are Looking For

  • A designer with an expert level of product design experience who is an experienced IC leader of the product design practice
  • Work history that demonstrates your influence and excellence as a product design leader across several teams or a large area of a product
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience designing complex solutions for complete digital environments. Deep Fintech, HR tech, B2b or SaaS experience is a plus for this position.
  • An impressive portfolio of work that shows how your design work consistently delivers outstanding results for both the business and for end users
  • Work that demonstrates your deep expertise and mastery of product design craft via simplicity, typography, interaction design and UI design
  • Case studies that help us understand your full end-to-end design process from insight gathering through to defining the customer problem, conceptual design, delivery, measurement and optimization.
  • Clear evidence that you are a close and influential collaborator with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive the business forward through design thinking and solutions
  • Candidates that embody and demonstrate our core values at Remote
  • Persuasive communication and masterful storytelling around your design work - with, clear, fluent written and spoken English that will help you communicate effectively with colleagues all over the world.
  • It's not required to have experience working remotely, but considered a plus.

The Responsibilities of a Staff Designer

Staff designers at Remote are considered IC experts within the product design team, successful applicants are leaders of design craft and collaboration; individuals that others seek out and learn from. Staff designers are hands-on IC contributors and can successfully guide work for a significant product area. They can handle complex projects with overlapping organizational lines.

  • DESIGN STRATEGY: You have a high degree of influence on the strategy of your product area and are a key collaborator in building this strategy with your team. You are expert at threading together business and user needs to create breakthrough product design strategy
  • RESEARCH: You have an expert grasp on research methods and can confidently apply them to any challenge. You can help guide and mentor others on the team to improve their research knowledge
  • ENVISIONING: You are a core player and leader in large, important vision processes, often leading the charge and helping shape this work. Your vision work is innovative and inspiring to the team.
  • VISUAL DESIGN: You can rapidly and expertly create high fidelity design work that inspires others and delights users. Your work is beautiful, original and pushes the boundaries of the design system
  • INTERACTION DESIGN: Your prototypes are fluid, detailed and consider the small but delightful elements that make using a product great. Your interaction design craft is innovative and is inspiring to the designers around you, it drives business thinking
  • DESIGN SYSTEMS: You are a key contributor to and ambassador of the design system. You know how to spot and improve the deficits of the design system and work with the systems designers to enhance design patterns for the benefit of all
  • ARCHITECTURE AND MODELS: You are a go to person to sort out complex flows that span multiple areas and help define the product holistically. You help define information architecture at a high level
  • COMMUNICATION: You craft strong and powerful narratives around your work, using storytelling to help drive the business forward. You are a master of team crit whose input propels your team’s work forward. Your strong communication helps build understanding across multiple teams
  • COLLABORATION: You have mastered using feedback to build consensus on your work. The way you collaborate with your team and the department is an accelerant to their success. You build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • LEADERSHIP: You are a a respected leader in the team whose focus is improving the product, your input is sought out. You help shape and improve team rituals, culture and processes. You are a leader in bringing larger groups like the department or area together

Remote Compensation Philosophy

Remote's Total Rewards philosophy is to ensure fair, unbiased compensation and fair equity pay along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate. We do not agree to or encourage cheap-labor practices and therefore we ensure to pay above in-location rates. We hope to inspire other companies to support global talent-hiring and bring local wealth to developing countries.
At first glance our salary bands seem quite wide - here is some context. At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce. We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $71,700 - $242,000 USD. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.
