The position
This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global employment space as a Payroll Expert, joining our Payroll team.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10+ years of payroll experience in an in-house processing environment
- Legislation expertise
- Highly skilled in implementing, integrating, and parallel testing.
- Capable of identifying the necessity for project lead and to see the projects from start to finish with accuracy while maintaining ownership; ability to stay calm in prolonged high-stress periods.
- Expertise in government audits to be able to lead any incoming government audits.
- Strong accounting background including payroll GL setup and configuration, and balancing/ reconciling.
- Proficient in using local payroll tools and software tools like SAP, Excel / Google Sheet.
- An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, international work environment with a passion for making an impact.
- Is a productivity geek and will constantly think of ways to improve and speed up their work.
- You understand the need and ideal to work largely asynchronously.
- Writes and speaks fluent English
- It's not required to have experience working remotely, but considered a plus
Key responsibilities
- Act as a true subject matter expert and provide accurate and verifiable legislative back-up and references pertaining to project implementations.
- Audit payroll as a whole (ex: audit of payroll tasks, segregation of duties…) to ensure appropriate controls are implemented and followed
- Develop payroll continuity plan while refining processes and procedures to maintain efficiency and accuracy for payroll processing.
- Partner with training and development to establish country-specific training on identified tasks below, or projects arising from day-to-day work
- A focus on platform improvement regarding NEO integration.
- Responsible for leading year-end related activities (including pre & post-balancing of remittances, third-party payments, deficiencies, tax slip balancing, and Summary filings), and delegating specific tasks to the payroll team after the required training is provided.
- Monitor regulatory and legislative changes to ensure they are communicated internally and recognized in internal systems, and updated on Internal Notion pages.
- Improve & streamline various payroll processes, such as: Off-cycle payments, Remittances Balancing, WCB’s, and EHT’s balancing.
- Create/ develop the WSDRF file for Quebec (currently does not exist).
- Create new and efficient tools for various payroll processes such as Balancing Tools and appropriate Checklists to fix current issues in payroll.
- Act as an internal point of contact for Remote employees in complex payroll-related situations, questions, and tickets (legislative and payroll tax-related)
- Take ownership of the system’s configuration to report correctly in the year-end reporting and to ensure accurate payroll taxes are calculated and remitted.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $122,200 - $137,500 USD. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.
At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.
