The position

This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global employment space as a Senior Benefits Compliance Specialist, joining our Benefits team.

As a Benefits Compliance Specialist, you will help establish Remote's benefits compliance function and ensure Remote’s benefits programs, operations, vendor processes, and product workflows remain compliant, scalable, and aligned with country-specific statutory and regulatory requirements. You will partner closely with Benefits Operations, Benefits Solutions, Legal, Payroll, Finance, Product, and external advisors to define standards, identify compliance risks, strengthen controls, and support reliable benefits delivery across Remote’s global footprint.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret benefits compliance requirements across countries where Remote operates, including statutory benefits, mandatory insurance, and supplemental benefits.
  • Oversee compliance with statutory benefits filings, mandatory reporting, and regulatory obligations by partnering with stakeholders to ensure requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Conduct regular audits of benefits processes, data, vendor outputs, payroll inputs, deductions, contributions, and operational workflows to identify compliance gaps or risks.
  • Partner with Legal, Payroll, Finance, Benefits Operations, Benefits Solutions, Product, and external advisors to assess requirements and implement compliant processes.
  • Identify areas of non-compliance or operational risk, document root causes, recommend remediation plans, and drive issues through to resolution.
  • Design, implement, and maintain benefits compliance controls, SOPs, country guidance, escalation paths, and audit documentation.
  • Translate regulatory and compliance requirements into operational and product requirements, ensuring new benefits launches and process changes are compliant by design.
  • Track compliance incidents, remediation actions, and recurring risk themes; contribute to reporting and dashboards that improve visibility and accountability.
  • Support vendor governance by helping review benefits provider processes, outputs, documentation, and compliance obligations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that reduce manual work, improve data quality, and strengthen compliance outcomes.
  • Stay up to date with global benefits legislation, regulatory updates, and best practices, and communicate relevant changes to stakeholders.

What you bring

  • Experience in benefits operations, benefits compliance, HR compliance, payroll compliance, legal operations, employment compliance, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of benefits administration and statutory benefits requirements, ideally across multiple countries or regions.
  • Experience designing compliance frameworks and leading audits, reconciliations, risk assessments, controls, or compliance documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data, spreadsheets, reports, and operational evidence.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify process gaps, inconsistencies, and compliance risks.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex requirements into clear documentation and guidance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across countries, stakeholders, and timelines.
  • A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset with a bias toward scalable solutions and continuous improvement.

At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce.  We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.

The annual salary range for this full-time position is

$46,150 - $103,900 USD
