Construction APM
At RES, we’re looking for purpose-driven individuals who are passionate about restoration and sustainability, and who want their work to make a lasting environmental impact. Our team members go above and beyond, bringing initiative, integrity, and a strong work ethic to every project. Collaboration is key—we thrive on teamwork, open communication, and diverse perspectives. In a field that constantly changes, we value those who are resilient, adaptable, and resourceful in the face of challenges. If you're intellectually curious, eager to learn, and ready to help restore ecosystems and protect natural resources, you’ll find your place here.
RES is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join our team.
As an Assistant Project Manager at RES, you’ll be embedded in the full lifecycle of projects that restore streams, wetlands, forests, and native habitats across the country. You’ll work side-by-side with senior project managers, gaining exposure to technical design, construction planning, regulatory compliance, and financial management. This is an ideal role for someone early in their career who’s passionate about the environment and eager to grow into a full project management role. This role is based out of Burlington, NC
Why You’ll Love This Job
- You’ll get to build things that matter. From concept to construction, you’ll help deliver projects that improve ecosystems, water quality, and resiliency in your region.
- You’ll learn the full project lifecycle. You'll gain hands-on experience with permitting, scoping, scheduling, and budgeting — not just watching from the sidelines.
- You’ll work with a collaborative, mission-driven team. At RES, you'll be surrounded by scientists, engineers, operators, and field crews all working toward the same goal: better land and water.
- You’ll grow in the role. With exposure to a wide range of disciplines and direct mentorship from experienced PMs, you’ll be positioned for long-term career development.
A Day in the Life
No two days are quite the same. One morning, you may be drafting a scope and budget for a new stream restoration project alongside a PM, checking assumptions and timelines. In the afternoon, you're coordinating with internal engineering staff or reviewing a subcontractor’s quote to make sure it aligns with the project plan. You might hop on a call with regulators or step into a design review session to get a better understanding of wetland construction methods. At other times, you’re heads-down in project management software — updating schedules, tracking deliverables, or flagging obstacles before they become delays. Travel will typically be within 2-4 hours from Burlington 2-3 days per week. Some overnight stays will be required.
As you grow into the role, you’ll begin identifying constraints, managing components of active projects, and gradually stepping into a more visible leadership position within the project team.
We would like to talk to you if you have many of the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in engineering, environmental sciences, construction management, or a related field
- Exposure to project management software (Smartsheet, MS Project)
- Basic understanding of a project lifecycle and its phases
- Interest in gaining experience with regulatory, technical, and financial aspects of project development
- Basic understanding of the fundamentals of project scoping, budgeting, and scheduling
You will thrive in this position if you:
- Take accountability and ownership of assigned tasks
- Are a strong communicator
- Possess curiosity and commitment to growing technical and management expertise
What would make you stand out?
- Familiarity with restoration, environmental permitting, or construction projects
- Demonstrated interest in sustainability, water resources, or ecological restoration
