
Water Resources Engineer II

RES is looking for a Water Resources Engineer with two to four years of experience in water resources field to support the design and implementation of restoration, stormwater, and nature-based infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong fundamentals in hydrology, hydraulics, and ecological design who’s ready to contribute to meaningful, field-tested solutions—and grow into technical leadership. You’ll be based out of one of RES’s Florida offices in Orlando, DeLand, or Fort Lauderdale and work closely with our internal engineers, scientists, and project managers. You’ll spend most of your time focused on design, modeling, and technical analysis, with occasional travel to project sites for assessments, construction support, and QA/QC review.

As a member of our team, you will focus on projects for ecosystem restoration, water quality improvements, coastal resiliency, and improvements in complex watersheds, as well as solving unique ecological and hydrologic issues in various complex watersheds across Florida. Opportunities may include projects for large landscape-level flood mitigation; urban, sub-urban and rural stormwater retrofits; stream and wetland restoration; living shorelines; canal retrofits and nutrient reduction projects related to EPA’s Impaired Waters Rule/Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and Florida’s Basin Management Action Plans (BMAPs).
Your day to day design tasks and projects may include feasibility assessments, water resources design, plan development, cost estimating, post design, and seeing projects that you had a hand in designing built in the field.
You will have the opportunity to interact and work on innovative designs that require developing new and/or improved techniques and procedures.
We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
- Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, or Coastal Engineering with a water resources focus.
- Engineer In Training license with the expectation to sit for the Florida Professional Engineering Exam within one to two years of hiring.
- Two to four years of experience with stormwater management, watershed and floodplain management and planning, natural systems mitigation, living shorelines and restoration design and management, and/or stream and wetland design.
- Experience with Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling software (ICPR 3, Storm Wise (ICPR 4), HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and XPSSWMM). Stormwater BMP Design.
- Experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Knowledge of basic civil site design fundamentals (i.e. grading, drainage, topography, coordination with survey, stormwater management, culvert/pipe sizing, open channel design, permeable pavements/surfaces).
- Ability to research and analyze different treatment techniques and propose innovative restoration design approaches for water quality treatment and their impacts on nutrients and feasibility for water quality improvement at sites.
- Familiarity with jurisdictional design standards and basic permitting requirements
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills
- Ability to support occasional fieldwork, including site assessments, QA/QC, and construction observation
What will make you stand out?
- Experience preparing project estimates, floodplain analyses, H&H investigation and modeling, evaluating groundwater hydrology, and assessing and restoring stream and wetland biological functionality.
- Experience with AutoCAD/AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Knowledge of field survey and data collection techniques for streams, wetlands, shorelines; monitoring wells, water quality and flow monitoring.
- Living shoreline design experience.
- Low Impact Development (LID) design experience
. - Direct experience with Federal/State/Local environmental regulations and understanding of the Federal Clean Water Act, State Stormwater Rule, and other state and federal environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
- Problem-solving skills for developing solutions for projects.
