RES is looking for a Scientist I to join our team.

Our Florida operation is growing exponentially and is in need of an entry level Scientist I to assist with performing NPDES inspections of stormwater components. You will have the opportunity to expand your knowledge of stormwater treatment systems while learning from the experienced team of senior biologists, scientists, and ecologists! Depending on the interests and qualifications of the candidate, other field work could include environmental resource assessments, water/soil sampling, monitoring, etc.

A Day in the Life

Around 50% of the time you will be in the field, performing:

  • NPDES inspection of stormwater assets
  • Other potential field work based on background and interests could include environmental resource assessments, water/soil sampling, monitoring, etc.

The remaining time will be spent preparing and/or reviewing reports generated based on the field activities performed.

Note that we perform these tasks in Florida’s hot, humid environment for extend periods of time, in natural and disturbed land settings with potential exposure to biting and stinging insects, venomous snakes and spiders, wild animals and other hazards, so being an avid outdoorsperson is necessary to thrive in this position.

 

We would like to talk to you if you have many of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, geology, natural resources, or a related field
  • 0–2 years of field experience (can include internships, academic fieldwork, or volunteer work)
  • Basic knowledge of scientific methods, data collection using GPS and/ or GIS tools, and safe field practices
  • Familiarity with ecological concepts such as native species, soil profiles, or hydrology
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and terrain
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Have strong work ethic and reliability in team-based fieldwork

  • Exposure to wetland, stream, or habitat assessments
