Senior Technical Advisor, Lead Poisoning Elimination

Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a US-based, global public health organization with a mission to prevent 100 million deaths from heart disease and to make the world safer from epidemics. Since 2017, Resolve to Save Lives has partnered with low-and middle-income country governments, multilateral agencies, academic and other civil society partners, and communities to implement policies and programs to treat and control hypertension, reduce sodium intake, eliminate artificial trans fats, and strengthen systems for epidemic prevention. 

The Cardiovascular Health (CVH) unit at RTSL provides technical assistance in developing cardiovascular disease prevention programs to help countries improve their people's heart health. Working with our partners to improve the control of high blood pressure, reduce salt intake, and eliminate transfat from the global food supply, the CVH team has helped save countless lives from cardiovascular disease.  

Position Summary

Resolve to Save Lives' (RTSL) Cardiovascular Health unit works with partners to eliminate artificial trans fat from the global food supply, increase global control of high blood pressure to 50%, reduce the global intake of salt by 30% and recently began work in the area of lead poisoning elimination 

The Senior Technical Advisor (STA), Lead Poisoning Elimination, will strategically develop, manage, and advise on RTSL's efforts on lead. This position reports to the Director of Nutrition. The incumbent will work closely with the Director and RTSL leadership to shape the program on lead poisoning at RTSL. They will spearhead a collaboration with the World Health Organization around a technical package for lead elimination in LMICs. Further, they will support lead elimination programs in RTSL countries as funding becomes available, collaborating with RTSL country teams to guide the work.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement RTSL's lead poisoning elimination strategy in collaboration with the Director, Nutrition Policy and Surveillance  
  • Serve as the key technical advisor for RTSL's work on lead poisoning elimination 
  • Serve as the key contact person for RTSL global partners working on lead poisoning elimination, providing guidance and oversight 
  • Provide virtual and on-site technical support to the country teams' managers and country-level collaborators, working closely with them as they develop and implement country strategies 
  • Identify new countries for RTSL to support on lead poisoning elimination, including assisting with fundraising, liaising with the government, identifying partners and getting programs running 
  • Develop and/or manage the development of toolkits, presentations, scientific articles and other technical and communications materials regardinglead poisoning elimination  
  • Oversee the work of consultants and others providing expert input into RTSL lead poisoning elimination activities and related activities 
  • In collaboration with in-country nutrition managers (where relevant), lead the project management of RTSL's lead poisoning elimination work, including: 
    • Review regular progress reports from implementing partners and generate summaries and recommendations for the initiative's Director, Nutrition and Surveillance 
    • Manage solicitation and review of grant proposals for sodium reduction activities in priority low and middle-income countries 
    • Liaise with, monitor, track progress and report on project implementation by in-country and other partners 
  • Represent the team at international conferences and meetings and with implementing partners  

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in public health, environmental science, public policy or international development  

Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant global health, environmental science or development experience  
  • At least five years working in environmental health (lead preferred but not essential), with at least some in low- and middle-income countries 
  • Experience developing technical materials  
  • Experience working with national governments

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for applicants based in the US is $125,000 to $140,000 annually. The exact offer will be determined by various factors, such as the candidate's skills and experience relative to the requirements of the role. For applicants based outside the US, salaries are set according to national labor rates for the international NGO sector.
