Development Writer - Remote US

Position Purpose
The Development Writer advances RTSL’s mission by crafting high-quality, compelling donor-focused narratives that strategically position and communicate the impact of our global public health programs. This role translates complex scientific and technical content into clear, persuasive language that resonates with funders, partners, and other stakeholders. The Development Writer collaborates closely with program, communications, and development teams to develop proposals, reports, concept notes, and success stories that inspire donor confidence and investment in RTSL’s life-saving work. The Development Writer will embody RTSL’s values of collaboration, integrity, and excellence in all interactions and deliverables.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Proposal and Donor Content Development
- Translate complex public health interventions and technical information into compelling, donor-friendly language aligned with donor interests and RTSL’s strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with program leads to gather input, data, and context needed to develop persuasive proposals, concept notes, and reports.
- Lead or support the drafting, editing, and quality assurance of funding proposals and donor reports across RTSL’s programmatic areas.
- Develop tailored value propositions for institutional and philanthropic donors that articulate RTSL’s unique strengths, evidence base, and impact.
Storytelling and Donor Communications
- Lead the creation of donor-facing success stories that clearly demonstrate RTSL’s global impact and how our programs are saving lives.
- Work closely with the Communications team to ensure brand, tone, and message consistency across all donor communications.
- Identify and elevate stories that showcase innovation, effectiveness, and partnership across country programs.
Knowledge Management and Content Library
- Maintain a content library of reusable language, success stories, data points, and funding priorities to support efficient, high-quality proposal development.
- Develop standardized templates and narrative components (e.g., organizational overviews, program summaries, bios) to ensure consistency and reduce duplication of effort.
- Continuously refine and update donor messaging based on evolving program priorities, evidence, and impact.
Key Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience writing donor-facing materials such as proposals, concept notes, reports, and success stories in global health, international development, or related fields.
- Experience with donor writing for major funders (eg, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Gates Foundation, etc) and familiarity with their reporting and proposal standards.
- Proven track record of translating complex technical or scientific material into accessible, persuasive writing.
- Experience working across functions and with global teams in a matrixed organization.
- Familiarity with public health, global development, or humanitarian program contexts (eg, non-communicable diseases, epidemic preparedness, primary health care, health systems strengthening).

- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with an ability to tailor tone and structure for different audiences.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with technical experts, program leads, and communications staff, managing narrative alignment across departments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to working across diverse global contexts.
- Fluency in English required; other languages are a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, international development, English, or a related field.

Compensation and Benefits
Resolve to Save Lives prides itself on cultivating a supportive, connected remote team doing work that matters. We do everything possible to ensure our employees are connected and set up for success.
The salary range for applicants based in the US is $98,000 to $115,000 annually. The exact offer will be determined by various factors, such as the candidate’s skills and experience relative to the requirements of the role.
