Communications Manager (Remote - US)

Position Purpose 

Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is seeking a skilled storyteller and digital communicator to serve as Communications Manager to manage content across RTSL’s websites and support efforts that advance our credibility, mission and work.  

The Communications Manager is responsible for our website’s editorial calendar, including planning, developing and managing web content in line with RTSL’s website content strategy. He/she will liaise closely with our Web Solutions Manager on SEO and GEO strategies to extend the reach of our website content and adapt our website content strategy based on data. A secondary but critical focus of this role is providing strategic communications support across priority initiatives, including drafting OpEds, thought leadership pieces, and talking points that elevate RTSL’s work and impact.  

The ideal candidate is an outstanding writer who can master RTSL's voice, translate complex science and public health data into engaging narratives, and produce content that performs across formats, including website copy, OpEds and media talking points. 

The Communications Manager reports to the Communications Director and liaises closely with the external affairs and web teams.   

Core Responsibilities & Duties 

Website content development (~70%) 

  • Create and manage an editorial calendar for RTSL website properties that aligns with our website content strategy  
  • Develop and edit content for all RTSL website properties, liaising with program teams, IT team and other communications managers. This includes new program pages, news posts, web-based technical resources and event pages  
  • Support content governance, keeping content updated, accurate, and reflective of current initiatives 
  • Contribute to regular reviews of content strategy and site analytics   
  • Lead project management for special website projects as needed 
  • Work with external affairs team and communications managers to align web content with social media and other dissemination strategies  
  • Work with the Web Solutions Manager to apply SEO and GEO best practices to all website content, including keyword strategy, structured content formatting, and optimization for AI-powered search and discovery 

Public Relations Writing (~30%) 

  • Draft OpEds, bylined articles, and LinkedIn thought leadership pieces for RTSL CEO Dr. Tom Frieden and other RTSL spokespeople  
  • Write PR materials including press releases, talking points, tough Q&As, and rapid-response messaging in collaboration with the external affairs team and program leads, as needed 
  • Update Dr. Frieden’s website with new media appearances and essays 
  • Provide surge writing support for high-priority communications moments, including global health events, publication launches, and breaking news 

Required Qualifications & Skills 

  • Experience: 5–7 years in communications with a focus on website content development 
  • Education: Degree in Digital Media, Information Science, Communications, Marketing, Public Health, or a related field 
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to turn technical or sensitive information into engaging stories 
  • Experience writing in contexts where accuracy, nuance, and voice consistency are required  
  • Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Drupal, or HubSpot  
  • Working knowledge of SEO tools (e.g., Yoast, SEMrush, Moz) and Google Analytics 
  • Familiarity with digital design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) preferred  
  • Strong project management skills, including proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range for this position is $80,000 to $95,000 annually. The exact offer will be determined by various factors, such as the candidate's skills and experience relative to the requirements of the role.
