Role Description

The Senior Business Development Manager is a leader on our Outreach Team. You will serve as both a strategic planner and a hands-on leader who thrives in the intersection of relationship building, technical sales, and team development. As our Senior Business Development Manager, you'll be the primary point of contact for our largest nonprofit and affordable housing clients, guiding them through complex solar decisions while simultaneously mentoring and managing a team of 1-3 business development and account management professionals.

In this role, you'll split your time between direct client engagement (securing LOIs and final contracts), post-contract project coordination, and developing your team's capabilities. You're comfortable being accountable for both your individual sales targets and your team's collective success. Most importantly, you're passionate about environmental justice and see solar energy as a powerful tool for supporting the organizations that serve our most vulnerable communities.

Responsibilities

Business Development & Lead Generation (10%)

  • Engage with new potential clients through outreach initiatives, warm introductions, referrals, conferences, and events
  • Network and build relationships with affordable housing organizations and other institutional nonprofits

Client Engagement & Sales (30%)

  • Set and carry out sales meetings in person and remotely, which are comprised of:
    • Generating excitement for clients to move forward on solar with Resonant Energy
    • Walking through a detailed proposal or portfolio analysis
    • Identifying and gathering additional information needed to carry out a project 
    • Walk clients through financing and contract options 
  • Get Letters of Intent (LOIs) signed

Post-LOI Project Coordination (30%)

  • Oversee detailed data and document collection post LOI and coordinate technical site visit scheduling
  • Attend weekly project rundowns with Project Managers and Project Sponsors 
  • Support clients through legal review of all project contracts and securing necessary consents from their applicable financing parties
  • Get all final contracts signed (this will be the core KPI for assessing performance in the role).
  • Maintain connection after contract signing to support customer service and ensure that clients have a great experience

People Management & Team Leadership (20%)

  • Manage a team of 1-3 Account and Business Development Managers
  • Provide consistent high level guidance to other project team members at regular intervals
  • Keep supervisees on track to hit quarterly targets; support overall sales team in hitting team-wide targets
  • Create and lead trainings to support supervisees in their work

Sales Innovation Management (10%)

  • Think creatively about improving internal processes, collective skills, and efficiency across teams to implement improvements
  • Support cross team work associated with rolling out new products or rolling out existing products to new market segments
  • Identify and address trends that are leading clients to work with competitors or not move forward with solar

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of academic or additional professional experience
  • 5+ years of business development or consulting experience
  • Experience being the client relationship owner in long-cycle technical sales or consulting engagements
  • Experience securing buy-in and approvals in at least one of our client segments, e.g. affordable housing developers, institutional non-profits, or non-profits
  • 2+ years of direct supervisory experience
  • Preferred:
    • MBA or Master's degree in Electrical/Mech/Civil Engineering, Urban Planning preferred
    • Experience in commercial solar PV client relationship development and sales
    • Experience with legal contracts and commercial project finances
    • Experience with performing and managing teams against KPIs

Technical Skills

  • Ability to use Google Workspace products and Microsoft Word
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to use a Macbook/Apple OS
  • Native or fluent English language skills
  • Valid driver's license

Working Environment & Conditions

Office 

  • This role primarily works in a standard, temperature controlled office environment on the second floor of a building with an elevator
  • Constant sitting or standing; standing desks are provided
  • Constant computer use
  • No exposure to hazards
  • No exposure to adverse conditions

Travel

  • Occasional client office site visits that require driving; the company reimburses mileage at federally set rates

Compensation & Benefits Package

Compensation

  • Total Compensation: $140,000 - $155,000
  • Base Salary: $100,000 - $115,000
  • Performance Bonus: On target bonus of $40,000 based on individual and team achievements (uncapped)
