ABOUT THE ROLE
The Pediatric Clinical Supervisor brings Respire’s pediatric clinical program to life - leading the daily clinical work that prepares medically complex children and their caregivers for a safe, coordinated transition home. From the earliest discharge-planning conversations through setup and ongoing care, the Supervisor partners with hospital case managers, families, Patient Navigation, and the pediatric respiratory team to build a clear transition plan, coordinate clinical and equipment needs, confirm caregiver readiness, and keep every handoff moving.
This is a hands-on clinical leadership role centered on pediatric programming, caregiver confidence, and continuity of care. The Supervisor coaches clinicians, directs workload and coverage, steps into complex patient situations, and ensures pediatric protocols, caregiver education, competency validation, and follow-up standards are carried out with both clinical excellence and empathy. The Supervisor works across Patient Navigation, Sales and Liaisons, Revenue Cycle, Warehouse and Delivery, and other clinical and operational teams so families experience one coordinated team rather than a series of handoffs. This role reports to the Senior Clinical Manager and has direct clinical reports.
WHAT YOU’ll DO
- Lead daily clinical operations: Direct the day-to-day work of the pediatric respiratory team, establish priorities, assign coverage, monitor open needs, and build a team that leads with empathy as much as clinical skill.
- Coach and develop the team: Support hiring, onboarding, structured training, competency validation, performance feedback, scheduling, and ongoing development of pediatric respiratory staff.
- Maintain safe coverage: Coordinate field schedules, patient visits, setups, follow-up needs, and escalation coverage; identify staffing gaps early and elevate resource needs.
- Guide the transition home: Partner with hospital case managers, caregivers, Patient Navigation, and the care team from referral through discharge to align the plan of care, home assessment, equipment readiness, education, setup, and required follow-up.
- Stay close to patients and families: Serve as a steady, compassionate clinical escalation point during high-stress moments, help resolve barriers, and ensure families understand the plan and know how to obtain support.
- Provide hands-on clinical support: Participate in complex setups, assessments, education, troubleshooting, and follow-up visits when patient acuity, staff development, or coverage needs require.
- Strengthen caregiver readiness: Deliver and reinforce structured, multi-visit education and return-demonstration pathways that build family confidence, identify gaps in caregiver capability, and ease the emotional weight of bringing a medically complex child home.
- Coordinate across the journey: Partner with Patient Navigation on qualification, authorization, documentation, scheduling, resupply, and recertification barriers that may affect continuity of care.
- Ensure clinical documentation: Review clinical records, assessments, education, equipment documentation, and follow-up notes for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with the plan of care.
- Manage escalations through resolution: Respond to clinical, safety, service, caregiver, equipment, or continuity concerns; involve the appropriate leader or provider; and maintain closed-loop communication.
- Partner with referral sources: Join hospital, facility, physician, case-management, social-work, and Sales or Liaison discussions to support safe transitions, closed-loop communication, and confidence in the pediatric program.
- Monitor performance: Track workload, setup and follow-up timeliness, caregiver readiness, outstanding clinical needs, documentation completion, complaints, incidents, and other defined pediatric program measures.
- Improve daily practice: Lead team huddles, reinforce standardized workflows, identify recurring breakdowns, and participate in complaint review, incident review, audits, corrective actions, and process improvement.
- Support program implementation: Help translate pediatric program requirements, policies, clinical protocols, equipment standards, caregiver education, and follow-up expectations into consistent frontline practice.
- Build the pediatric care community: Participate in hospital-partner engagement, pediatric advocacy activities, and RT school, internship, or preceptor relationships as assigned.
WHAT YOU’ll BRING
- Active, unencumbered Respiratory Therapist license in the state of practice and current Registered Respiratory Therapist credential required. Pediatric or neonatal specialty certification such as RRT-NPS, NRP, or PALS preferred.
- At least three years of respiratory therapy experience, including meaningful experience with pediatric or medically complex respiratory patients.
- Demonstrated leadership experience as a supervisor, lead RT, preceptor, educator, charge therapist, or project lead; direct people-management experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of pediatric ventilator and tracheostomy care, oxygen, airway-clearance therapies, noninvasive ventilation, caregiver education, and hospital-to-home transitions.
- Home care or HME/DME experience preferred, including familiarity with home respiratory equipment, documentation, payer requirements, and service coordination.
- Ability to travel regularly to patient homes, hospitals, Respire locations, and other field locations as required by the role.
- Ability to organize clinical workload, coach staff, manage competing priorities, and respond calmly and decisively to urgent patient or operational needs.
- Clear, credible communication with families, clinicians, physicians, case managers, referral partners, and internal teams.
- A genuine passion for pediatric and family-centered care, with the empathy and emotional steadiness to support caregivers and clinicians through high-stress transitions.
- Sound clinical judgment, strong documentation habits, and a commitment to standardized, compassionate, and compliant care.
- Comfort using electronic health records, workflow systems, Microsoft Office, telehealth platforms, and other digital tools; Brightree experience preferred.
