Department Overview

The Partnerships and Community Impact team stewards and executes on partnerships to accelerate progress towards RFA’s North Star goals. This cross-cutting capacity leads an enterprise-wide approach to strategic collaboration, acting as an internal connector and external collaborator creating cohesion in the economic mobility field and driving impact for residents in local communities.

 

Project Overview 

Starting in 2024, RFA, in partnership with a major national funder, is embarking on a large-scale, multi-year effort in support of local government decision makers, focused on building the value of public goods and resources that better enable these leaders to increase economic mobility in their communities. As a part of this effort, RFA will build an economic mobility “network platform” that will serve as an online hub to bring together local decision makers and resource creators from around the country to improve the creation, delivery, and adoption of public goods to advance economic mobility. Through this project, RFA and its partners will help ensure that local government leaders can access and utilize the high-quality, user-centered resources and support they need to expand economic opportunity and achieve more equitable outcomes for their residents.

 

Position Overview

We seek to empower the Associate Product Manager to solve hard problems – customer problems and business problems – in ways that our customers love, yet work for our organization. This role will work cross-functionally but will sit within a team composed of a Vice President, Director, associate product manager, and community manager.

Building off of existing work at RFA, the Associate Product Manager will be the development and product lead for the Results Network, ensuring that the platform is able to meet the current and future goals of this project, our organization, and our funding partners. The Associate Product Manager will work closely with program, operational, and technical departments, as well as the broader project’s national network partners and resource creators to build a creative, effective resource that helps local government leaders adopt evidence-based solutions that drive upward mobility.

This is a full time, exempt position, based in a home office anywhere within the U.S.

Travel up to 10% annually may be required.

 

Position Reporting Relationship

The Associate Product Manager, PCI will initially report to the Director, Results Network working closely with the leadership of this growing body of work.

 

Position Responsibilities

The Associate Product Manager will be responsible for scaling an existing community online forum for local decision makers in cities to a broader audience. This role requires a strategic thinker with a customer-first mindset and the ability to collaborate across various teams to bring products from conception to market. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, be adept at balancing the needs of multiple departments, and have a public sector and mission-driven approach. 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Product Development (20%)

  • Product Roadmap:  Develop a comprehensive product roadmap and lead the development, scaling, and optimization of the Results Network, ensuring alignment with RFA’s mission and the needs of local government leaders.
  • Collaborate on the strategy and roadmap for RFA’s broader tech stack, identifying opportunities to integrate the platform with existing tools to enhance internal efficiency and improve the platform’s user experience.
  • Product Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the broader project team, Technology and Information Systems, Strategic Communications, Development, and Measurement Evaluation and Learning, to define product requirements and specifications. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality products by managing the product development lifecycle.
  • Identify new use cases, lead requirements gathering, and incorporate high-value new features into product roadmap
  • Develop training materials and document processes for team knowledge management 
  • AI Integration: Where possible, identify opportunities to incorporate AI into product offerings, with a focus on enhancing user experience and supporting local decision makers in accelerating economic and social mobility in their communities.

Customer and Market Focus (20%)

  • Customer Focus: Act as the “voice” of the customer, ensuring that customer feedback from local decision makers is integrated into product development. Build off of existing research and, where time and resources allow, conduct user testing and gather feedback to continuously improve the product.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research to identify customer needs, market trends, and competitive landscape, particularly focusing on local decision makers. Utilize data to inform product decisions and strategy.
  • Industry trends: track industry trends and the competitive landscape as pertains to local government community platforms. 

Performance Monitoring (25%)

  • Performance Monitoring: Define and track performance of the product to measure its success. Analyze product performance data to identify areas for improvement and drive product enhancements.
  • Manage performance of the Results Network platform on Hivebrite backend analytics and Google Analytics. 
  • Support on the development of internal RFA knowledge sharing deliverables and funder reporting deliverables

Cross-Departmental and Stakeholder Communication (20%)

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work effectively in a growing organization with multiple departments having varied needs. Balance and prioritize these needs to ensure successful product development and implementation.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate platform vision, strategy, and progress to internal and external stakeholders. Present product updates and reports to staff across the organization.

Client Engagement and Troubleshooting (15%)

  • Actively interact with community members by responding to messages, answering questions, initiating conversations, and fostering a sense of belonging. 
  • Manage client support ticket procedures, including managing backlog of incident reports, tracking consistent issues, and ensuring timely response and resolution of reported client tickets.

Experience, Competencies, and Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, as well as an alignment with Results for America’s mission and organizational values:

Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree;
  • 2 years working on technology-powered products as either a product manager, product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, or user researcher. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.
  • Experience understanding customer needs, market dynamics, and competitive landscape;
  • Demonstrated track record of successful project completion even in ambiguous environments, taking initiative to solve problems, and cultivating strong, mutually beneficial partnerships;
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies;
  • Experience working with the public sector or mission-driven organizations is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with local governments and familiarity with economic mobility and/or government innovation approaches is highly desirable.

Competencies and Qualifications

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
  • Outstanding writing skills;
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
  • Excellent oral communications and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and build relationships with policymakers, external partners, colleagues, designers, engineers, etc;
  • Professional knowledge of content management systems (Wordpress, Drupal, etc), and/or familiarity with basic web technologies (HTML, CSS);
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce; etc);
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and their application in product development;
  • Proficiency in networking platform systems (e.g. Hivebrite, Higher Logic) is preferred
  • Proficiency in product management tools, such as Asana, is preferred
  • Proficiency with issue tracking systems (i.e. JIRA, Confluence) is preferred

 

Salary and Benefits

Results for America offers a compensation package that includes:   

  • A competitive base salary commensurate with relevant work experience; and
  • A benefits package that includes choice in medical plans; dental/vision coverage; paid time off; a 403b retirement plan with employer contribution.  

The salary range for this position is $95,693 - $114,365.

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
