[2025 Summer Internships] Education

Washington, District of Columbia, United States

Organization: Results for America
Role: 2025 Summer Intern - Education Policy Intern
Location: Remote

Organization Overview

Results for America (RFA) is the leading, national nonprofit organization helping policymakers at all levels of government harness the power of evidence and data to solve the world’s greatest challenges. Our mission is to make investing in what works the “new normal,” so that, one day, all government leaders use rigorous evidence and quality data to inform important policy and funding decisions. We believe that data-driven and evidence-based policy decisions should be used to increase the impact of the over $2 trillion that governments spend annually to open opportunities and advance economic mobility.

Program Overview

  • RFA’s 2025 summer internship program will run for approximately 10 weeks, from Monday June 2 - Friday, August 15, 2025. Over the course of this internship, all interns will be immersed in RFA’s programmatic and policy work by supporting one of RFA's innovative teams in achieving their strategic goals. Interns will work on various projects during their time at RFA, while also enjoying a range of learning and professional development opportunities.
  • Interns will work virtually and will be expected to use their own internet/computers. Interns will also be assigned RFA email addresses for the duration of the summer.

Team Overview

  • In July 2016, Results for America launched the Evidence in Education Lab (Ed Lab) to help states, school districts and schools build and use evidence to improve outcomes for our nation's students. building on the momentum of the 2015 enactment of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which for the first time defined and prioritized evidence and applied that definition across more than 90 provisions
  • In order to help state education agencies (SEAs) understand and leverage ESSA’s evidence provisions, Ed Lab expanded its work with the launch of our State Education Fellows program in December 2017. Our second cohort of fellows, which was launched in May 2021, focused on helping SEAs and their school districts leverage evidence as they responded to the overlapping crises of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic downturn, and pervasive, systemic racial and socioeconomic inequities. The third cohort of the Fellowship, launched in January 2023, was designed to support Fellows in strengthening their agency’s capacity for evidence-based grantmaking and building and using data and evidence to further their state’s education priorities. RFA has published multiple reports to help build field knowledge and awareness of opportunities for federal, state, and local education agencies to invest in what works, including our Moneyball for Education Policy Recommendations, our ESSA 50-State Report on Promising Practices for Using Evidence, and our Nevada Department of Education Case Study on Evidence-Based Literacy Improvement.
  • In July 2020, RFA launched EdResearch for Action in partnership with the Annenberg Institute at Brown University. EdResearch partners with leading researchers to generate practical, evidence-based resources on a range of topics of importance to policymakers and practitioners, primarily in school districts and at the state level. Over the past four years, we’ve built a library of more than 30 research briefs, case studies, data collection guides, and toolkits. These resources have been used to inform guidance and resources developed by advocacy and affinity organizations, as well as federal and state policies and programs.
  • In 2025, RFA’s education team will support state and local education leaders’ investments in evidence through two key strategies. First, the team will continue to develop and provide technical assistance to state and local education leaders on evidence-evidence-based grantmaking and procurement (see, for reference, RFA’s Education Evidence-Based Spending Guide). Second, RFA will build on the successful Summer 2024 Building and Sustaining High-Impact Tutoring virtual learning series and deliver 2-3 education solution sprints to local education leaders, while supporting a fourth grant sprint for state leaders.
