Product Manager, Governance

ABOUT RETOOL

Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software: Gartner estimates that up to 50% of all code is written for internal use. This is the operational software for refunding orders, underwriting loans, onboarding employees, analyzing transactions, and providing customer support. But most companies don’t have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we’re on a mission to bring good software to everyone. We’re building a new type of development platform that combines the benefits of traditional software development with a drag-and-drop UI editor and AI, making it dramatically faster to build internal tools. We believe that the future of software development lies in abstracting away the tedious and repetitive tasks developers waste time on, while creating reusable components that act as a force multiplier for future developers and projects. The result is not just productivity, but good software by default. And that’s a mission worth striving for.

Today, our customers span from small startups building their first operational tools to Fortune 500 companies building mission-critical apps for thousands of users across their business. Interested in joining us? Let us know!

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Tens of thousands of customers rely on Retool to run their businesses, and our Product team helps shape the vision, create the roadmap, and build the products that make our customers successful.

Your days will include collaborating with design and engineering counterparts to build the right thing at the right time, working closely with go-to-market teams to get our products into the hands of our customers, and working with company leadership to communicate the direction and vision for your product area to the rest of the organization. At Retool, Product Managers are highly flexible, technically-minded, and known for their readiness to pivot or tailor their efforts when necessary to deliver great products to our customers.

As PM of the Hub team, you’ll own Retool’s “Admin” persona, driving all the ways that Retool customers manage and secure their Retool usage. Retool customers frequently build Retool apps that serve mission-critical, highly-sensitive use-cases: tools for updating their customers’ accounts, tools for running KYC processes, tools for running internal HR processes, etc. Retool must be deeply trusted, and Retool’s Governance platform is at the center of delivering on this trust.

Retool’s goal is to let customers “centralize governance, decentralize development.” If we can provide them the right guardrails, they can more confidently let their teams build more freely on the platform. You’ll build the strategy and roadmap to deliver on this goal: you’ll drive the evolution of Retool’s powerful Permissions system, you’ll own Retool’s Platform APIs, you’ll build out surface areas for admins to configure their end-users’ experience, and more.

For example, today we’re thinking about:

  • What levers can we provide to admins to help them empower their own builders and end-users? How can we help them better onboard their own users to the platform?
  • How can we let admins safely delegate administrative tasks to more teams? How can we break up administrative privileges in a way that maps to roles that actually exist within organizations?
  • Can we turn Permissions and Roles into capabilities for Retool builders to take advantage of? Can we let teams define their own user roles that can then dictate what a user is allowed to do when using a Retool app?

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

You’ll be working with almost all Retools but will most often be partnering with engineers, designers, data scientists, and go-to-market teams to deliver products to our customers.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL:

  • Set the direction of Retool’s product
  • Understand our customers by talking with them, a lot, interacting with go-to-market teams, and digging into product data; and communicate what you find to the rest of the organization
  • Collaborate with go-to-market to launch new features and products to our customers
  • Identify new opportunities and product areas for Retool to pursue
  • Measure, analyze and report to the organization on the success of our products
  • Help build the organizational foundations for a high-performing and growing Product team at Retool

THE SKILLSET YOU’LL BRING:

  • You have 4+ years of product management experience at a fast-growing technology company
  • You’ve shipped large-scope projects end-to-end
  • You know how you work best with engineering and design counterparts
  • You’ve worked closely with go-to-market teams to arm them to sell and to gather product feedback
  • You’ve worked closely and directly with customers, and have a knack for turning customer problems into the right product solutions
  • You have a strong ownership mindset to do whatever is needed to deliver the best product to our customers
  • You nurture a deep curiosity and knowledge of your customers and products
  • You think not just in terms of features but platforms and systems. You thrive thinking about how the interplay of different capabilities can open up more powerful and interesting possibilities.
  • You have an intuition for the needs of an enterprise-scale business—you’ve either seen it, or you’ve built products for it.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
