Product Marketing Manager, Competitive

New York, NY; Remote; San Francisco, CA

ABOUT RETOOL

Nearly every company in the world runs on custom software for critical operations like tracking performance metrics, handling customer support workflows, building admin dashboards, and countless other processes you might not have even thought of. But most companies don't have adequate resources to properly invest in these tools, leading to a lot of old and clunky internal software or, even worse, users still stuck in manual and spreadsheet flows.

At Retool, we’re building the first enterprise AppGen platform: software that transforms natural language into production-ready code, integrates directly with business data, and meets the highest standards of security and governance. AI is redefining what it means to build software—and who gets to build it. The definition of “developer” now includes analysts, operators, and domain experts creating solutions directly. As the pool of builders widens, so does the complexity of what they need to build. The opportunity is enormous, but so is the challenge of enabling this larger community to build production-grade software safely. That means AI that understands real business data, enforces enterprise policies automatically, and empowers teams to create once and reuse everywhere with shared, trusted components.

Over 100 million hours of work has been automated by developers and domain experts using our platform, freeing them to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic initiatives that drive real business value. The people closest to knowing what needs to be built can now safely create custom solutions within enterprise guardrails. And that's a mission worth striving for.

Let's build the future together!

WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU

We’re hiring a Product Marketing Manager to own Retool’s competitive strategy, intelligence, and enablement end-to-end. The software world isn’t slowing down—AI, new builders, and shifting markets are rewriting the playbook. You’ll decide which competitors really matter, dig into their products and positioning, and translate what you learn into clear, actionable plays for our product, marketing, and sales teams. You’ll build Retool’s competitive intelligence program from the ground up—defining focus areas, running analyses, and creating the single source of truth for how we win across markets.

You’ll be part of Retool’s Core & Platform Product Marketing team, which partners closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to shape what we build and how we bring it to market. Competitive intelligence will be your craft, but you’ll also play a key role in the broader work of launching and positioning products, sharpening our platform story, and helping Retool define a new era of app development.

We’re looking for someone who’s equal parts strategist and detective: technical enough to get hands-on with Retool and our competitors, curious enough to go find the truth for themselves, and sharp enough to turn insight into impact. If you love building structure out of ambiguity, spotting patterns others miss, and helping a company play to its strengths, this is your arena.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and run Retool’s competitive intelligence program, identifying priority competitors, setting focus areas, and maintaining the single source of truth for how we win.
  • Analyze competitor products, positioning, and go-to-market strategies to uncover differentiators and inform our product and marketing decisions.
  • Translate findings into clear, actionable insights for Product, Marketing, and Sales, helping teams make informed, confident choices.
  • Develop and maintain enablement materials (battlecards, win/loss insights, competitor profiles) that are accurate, useful, and widely adopted across the field.
  • Partner with Product and Core & Platform PMM peers to integrate competitive learnings into roadmaps, messaging, and launch strategies.

THE SKILLSET YOU'LL BRING

  • Experience in product marketing, competitive intelligence, or market research, ideally at a B2B SaaS company where the product had real technical depth.
  • A builder’s mindset paired with intellectual curiosity. You learn by doing, experiment to understand, and form conviction through firsthand exploration.
  • The technical confidence to dive into products directly (ours and others) to see how they actually work and where the real differences lie.
  • The ability to turn broad, messy research into a clear story: pulling threads from community conversations, customer calls, product testing, and data to help others see the bigger picture.
  • A collaborative working style. You’re the person teams trust for clarity, context, and honest perspective.
  • A bias towards practicality and action. You care less about polish and more about whether what you’ve built actually helps people make better decisions.
  • Familiarity with competitive intelligence tools, methodologies, and ethical research practices.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
