Fleet Manager - LA Operations

 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a dynamic and seasoned Fleet Manager to spearhead the growth of our electric vehicle (EV) fleet in the Los Angeles market. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in inventory management, vehicle procurement, routine maintenance and repairs, and overseeing in-house and third-party operations. Additionally, they will excel in vendor management, basic bodywork, vehicle up-fitting, and strategic oversight of a centralized fleet program tailored to rideshare operations.

 

This role requires a comprehensive understanding of fleet management best practices, industry regulations, permits, safety standards, and maintenance protocols. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong decision-making and people management abilities, ensuring fleet operations' efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. Previous experience managing rideshare or EV vehicles is a plus!

 

Position Responsibilities


Fleet Management

  • Oversee our EV fleet's maintenance and operation, encompassing owned and third-party contracted vehicles.
  • Collaborate with our internal service technicians and external vendors to implement preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance, reliability, and maximum uptime.
  • Optimize vehicle utilization by adjusting active car counts per depot based on fluctuating demand.
  • Coordinate the retrieval of impounded or stranded vehicles efficiently and dispatch emergency roadside assistance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records within our internal fleet management systems.
  • Manage the procurement and inventory of parts, supplies, equipment, tools, hardware, and software to support fleet operations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external infrastructure vendors to ensure sufficient chargers and power are available to charge our vehicles. 
  • Establish connections with local fleet support vendors to secure long-term partnerships to enhance operations and foster growth.

 

Regulatory Compliance

  • In collaboration with our internal compliance teams, the candidate must remain up-to-date on California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations for Transportation Network Companies (TNCs), LA city ordinances, and the Clean Miles Standard, ensuring full compliance.  
  • Oversee the acquisition and renewal of licenses, permits, and EV-specific certifications required to operate the rideshare fleet in California.  
  • Ensure all vehicles are properly licensed, permitted, and aligned with CPUC guidelines.  
  • Maintain detailed records of regulatory documentation, including licenses, permits, inspections, and insurance.  


Operational Leadership

  • Lead a team of service technicians and transporters, managing hiring, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development in line with HR policies. 
  • Plan and prioritize workloads to ensure timely vehicle movements between depots, service centers, and charging locations, integrating EV charging schedules. 
  • Coordinate vehicle deliveries, pickups, and inspections, optimizing efficiency while minimizing downtime. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, providing mentorship on workplace safety and operational best practices. 
  • Identify and implement workflow enhancements, such as telematics for real-time tracking, to boost operational efficiency.
  • Work as an integral part of the team to scale the business from an inventory,  efficiency, personnel, and operational perspective.


Problem-Solving

  • Proactively identify operational challenges and develop practical solutions to address them.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address issues and develop long-term solutions grounded in data and best operational practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: 6+ years in fleet management, with at least 2 years focused on EV operations or rideshare services. Experience in the LA market is a plus.  
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of EV maintenance (e.g., battery systems, charging infrastructure) and fleet management systems (Fleetio). Must be comfortable using and navigating apps on a smartphone.  Must be proficient with the G-Suite Products (Sheets, Slides, Docs, etc) 
  • Regulatory Expertise: Familiarity with CPUC TNC regulations and LA-specific ordinances; experience with permit and licensing processing is a plus.   
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and develop teams, focusing on technical training and performance management.  
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to address operational challenges with innovative, practical solutions.  
  • Communication: Strong ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, from ground-level employees to organizational leadership, both in digital and in-person formats. 
  • Bonus Skills: Experience with Kias, rideshare, or rental fleets is a plus! 

 

Base compensation ranges from $70-90k, based on experience level. Our benefits package includes:

Location

Los Angeles, CA  - This in-person position requires occasional travel to depots and service centers.
