R&D Specialist / Pheno-hunting Technician

Revolution is seeking a candidate with abundant cannabis knowledge and passion to join our R&D team as a R&D Specialist/Pheno-hunting Technician. The team is responsible for executing all pheno-hunting and breeding projects, by ensuring plant health is maintained and the maximum genetic potential of every strain is achieved.

  • Demonstrate consistent, reliable attendance and punctuality to maintain daily operations and team effectiveness.
  • Observe all safety and biosecurity practices and guidelines while executing tasks. 
  • Ensure all section tasks are completed correctly and on time using the Revolution-approved WorkFlow processes.
  • Inspect section crops daily to ensure proper nutrition, cultural standards, and overall plant health/ vigor.
  • Scout section plants to identify pest and disease issues and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Ensure that all inventory and production reporting data are recorded accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to Revolution biosecurity protocols.
  • Consolidate, upload, and assist with the analysis of phenotypic data.
  • Assist with record keeping and management of breeding database.
  • Assist with the optimization of phenotyping protocols.
  • Execute controlled pollinations based on the crosses designed by the leadership team.
  • Report and inform direct manager of concerns in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and present reports and summaries.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 21 years old minimum age requirement.
  • One year of plant care experience.
  • Strong ability to accomplish multiple tasks in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to be extremely organized & articulate to maintain accurate record keeping.
  • Strong understanding of excel and BioTrack.
  • Ability to work independently while executing tasks.
  • Understand basic breeding concepts and strategies as well as crop and pest management and their application in Cannabis.
  • General knowledge of anatomy and genetics of Cannabis plants required.
  • Willingness to learn or demonstrate a thorough understanding of dry and cure procedures required.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to teach others.
  • Positive attitude, ability to follow directions, and desire to learn.
  • Must pass internal and external background check including criminal history check by the State Police and FBI.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Cultivation Registration Identification Card

Note: A qualifying applicant must successfully pass aptitude test.

Cross- Departmental Functions:

Work with Cultivation & Compliance team to ensure post-harvest processing, IPM, environmental set-points,  and nutritional program is executed according to SOPs.

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or GED required

Required or Preferred Skills, Abilities, Licensures and Certifications

  • Experience working in agriculture or horticulture is preferred.
  • Ability to lead by example and work “hands on” with the team (required).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25lbs to a minimum height of 5 feet and able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, with or without mechanical assistance 
  • Must be able to work seated/standing as appropriate at workstations for extended periods of time, maintain body equilibrium while climbing ladders, stairways, stopping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, and use hands/fingers to hold, grasp, turn, pick, pinch frequently/constantly to complete tasks 
  • Must be able to handle organic matter daily, able to wear PPE as appropriate (eye, face, hand, arm, head, foot, body, fall protection), and able to be exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions while wearing PPE (95 degrees or greater) 
  • Must have visual acuity with/without job aids to perform activities such as; reading, viewing a computer terminal, visual inspection involving small parts/details. Clarity of vision at 20 ft or more in day and night/dark conditions 
  • Must be able to speak and communicate verbally at conversation levels with co-workers, vendors, etc. (Moderate noise) 

Work Schedule:

  • 40+ hours weekly with flexible hours depending on department needs. Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation/Benefits Insights Pay Range based on experience: starting at $24/hour. Revolution's Full-Time Employees are eligible for benefit offerings for the following: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, HSA Options, PTO, 401k with company match.
