Director of Product Marketing

The Director of Product Marketing will work closely with the VP of Global Sales, SVP of Product Development and marketing team to help bring new products to market and establish unique positioning for all product categories. This role is accountable for high-quality product launches that support rhode’s product portfolio in a way that leverages consumer behavior, data and trends while supporting the founder’s vision. 

Overview & Responsibilities 

  • Partner with the Product Development & Marketing teams to help to craft robust product positioning that ensures rhode’s product offering continues to innovate and disrupt the global marketplace. 
  • Support the briefing process for new product launches with internal cross-functional teams and external suppliers, ensuring clear communication on benchmarks, desired product claims, cost targets and timelines. 
  • Collaborate with the Product Development team in identifying desired product claims and developing final product claims, including ingredient storytelling upon formula approval.
  • Present product marketing concepts, competitive analysis and pricing recommendations to leadership that consider market positioning. 
  • Help define market size and scope for potential new products using relevant benchmarks, competitive analysis, and data points. 
  • Collaborate with the Brand Marketing team to ensure cohesive product expression, from copy to packaging execution, that clearly communicates rhode’s point of difference. 
  • Work closely with Product Development, Sales & Marketing to create strategic product toolkits, internal training materials and external training resources for new product launches.
  • Create pitch decks, presentations and sales materials for retailers to support new product introductions and secure shelf space in global retail environments. 
  • Lead the global promotional & kitting strategy for rhode, providing on-brand recommendations for sets, kits and retail/.com exclusives. 
  • Work closely with the VP of Global Sales & Finance team to help set strategic pricing guidelines for all new products that considers long term company objectives. 
  • Continuously drive effectiveness of existing product SKUs, helping to create key product penetration goals and identifying opportunities for hero product franchises based on sales & customer purchase data. 
  • Regularly evaluate competitive new products and present comprehensive analyses to cross functional teams. 
  • Liaise with the Legal, Regulatory and International teams to ensure all product details are globally compliant.

  • Highly skilled at translating product & consumer feedback and founders’ vision into actionable plans. 
  • Strong storytelling and presentation capabilities; can advocate and sell-in ideas to senior leadership. 
  • Detail oriented with an ability to shift priorities and juggle competing priorities in a fast paced environment. 
  • Desire to build collaborative relationships and work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, operations, and product development. 
  • Finger on the pulse of beauty industry trends and new products across various categories and price points. 

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, or other related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the beauty landscape with a demonstrated background in product positioning, including ingredient storytelling and product claims. 
  • Experience briefing product innovation concepts with product development teams.
  • Experience creating product education materials and/or go-to-market plans for a beauty brand. 

Work Experience: 

  • 7+ years of relevant beauty industry experience

The annual salary for this position is between $130,000 - $150,000, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This role is based out of our headquarters in Los Angeles, CA.
