Senior Director, Packaging Development

We are looking for a Sr. Director of Packaging Development to support our growing team and product expansion. Reporting to the SVP, Research and Development, the Director of Packaging Development will be responsible for driving all packaging development initiatives, including package design, sourcing, testing and managing the Packaging Development Team. 

In This Role You Will:

  • Engage with Product Marketing and Product Development Teams to support new package development and repackaging activities.
  • Lead the development of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging to support new product launches, promotional items, and ensure components can be manufactured on a repeat basis, meet lead time and cost targets.
  • Leverage new and current suppliers to source new materials with a focus on meeting COGS, margin targets, quality, on-time delivery and towards company sustainability objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing and Product Development teams via weekly new packaging review meetings and elevate risks where needed.
  • Manage every portion of the approval process between internal and external partners, ensure alignment at every step of the design and handover process to Supply Chain.
  • Oversee project tracking system across assigned projects between relevant departments, packaging engineer/designers, sourcing team and vendors.
  • Review and comprehend packaging specifications to perform fit/form/function testing across new products.
  • Finalize and approve PPS samples/drawdowns, while maintaining physical library of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging samples.
  • Manage the assembly, standardization, and maintenance of Finished Goods specifications.
  • Support Packaging related scale up activities during line trial & first production.
  • Build value analysis into every new development ensuring the construction and design provides the most cost-effective way to achieve design criteria but also provide the best function and quality.
  • Responsible for building and reconciling packaging tooling budget.
  • Lead inspiring and actionable innovation in support of brand objectives and support brand calendar pipeline of innovation.
  • Search new applicable technologies both within and outside our industry in order to continuously evaluate best practices and support product innovation.
  • Lead and develop the Packaging Development Team.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with internal stakeholders (PD, R&D, Product Marketing and Supply Chain) to develop and roll out processes to increase company efficiency. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or related field.
  • 10 + years’ experience in cosmetic package development.
  • Experience leading packaging development teams
  • Strong project management skills, including stakeholder, timeline, and meeting management skills.
  • Relevant understanding of packaging manufacturing and contract manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in product development and commercialization timelines and communicating to vendors and third-party manufacturing partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment while possessing strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills; comfortable and credible with both internal stakeholders and external audiences.
  • A flexible, dynamic, self-demanding and proactive individual; able to motivate him/herself and others; easily accepts constructive input from others.
  • MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint), Adobe Illustrator and digital software platforms for packaging artwork & design a plus.
  • Concentrated experience in prestige beauty industry with proven development and project management experience in color, fragrance, skin care categories.
  • Ability to work strategically with cross-functional partners to understand unmet consumer needs and efficiently translate those needs into successful, actionable results

Benefits: 
Compensation: $180,000 - $200,000
