About the Data Analyst - Market Commodity role:

The Data Analyst - Market Commodity Risk will play a critical role in Rhythm Energy’s market risk management team, responsible for building and maintaining models, analyzing market data, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial and risk-related reporting. This position will work closely with Portfolio Management, Finance, and other key stakeholders to monitor positions, explain performance drivers, and support the company’s risk management and P&L reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • P&L Attribution & Monitoring: Build and maintain models to support timely profit and loss (P&L) attribution and position monitoring, ensuring that leadership has accurate and up-to-date insights into portfolio performance.
  • Performance Analysis: Perform detailed analysis to understand changes in P&L, positions, and price curves, providing explanations of performance and risk drivers to the leadership team.
  • Process & System Improvement: Identify process and system gaps that limit the ability to accurately explain drivers of P&L. Collaborate with other departments to develop and implement solutions to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Position Monitoring: Monitor forward positions in collaboration with the Portfolio Management team to ensure compliance with Rhythm’s risk policy.
  • Middle Office Processes: Perform middle office end-of-day processes, including validation of curves and upload accuracy, to ensure that overnight valuations are accurate and reliable.
  • ETRM Project Support: Support mid-office activities related to Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) projects, including requirements scoping, testing, and migration to production for position/exposure reporting, P&L reporting, and settlements.
  • Transaction Control: Own and review the transaction control process, including key controls such as supply trade confirmations, to ensure that all deals are accurately captured within Rhythm’s ETRM and confirmed in a timely manner.
  • Risk Reporting: Provide support to the Finance team for reporting related to Rhythm’s credit facility provider and suppliers, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Risk Management Collaboration: Work closely with Portfolio Management, Operations, and other key stakeholders to identify and manage market and commodity risks appropriately.
  • Market Fundamentals Knowledge: Maintain a strong knowledge of wholesale power and gas market fundamentals to inform analysis and support business decisions.
  • Ad-Hoc Analysis: Perform ad-hoc analysis as needed to support business initiatives and inform strategic decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the energy or commodities sector.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling, with experience in ETRM systems (e.g., Allegro, OpenLink) being highly desirable.
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate complex market data and trends into actionable insights, with a focus on driving risk management and financial performance.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present analysis and recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
