
Senior Data Engineer

Roadie is seeking a Senior Data Engineer with deep experience in data infrastructure and scalable systems to help shape the future of our data platform. In this role, you’ll design, build, and optimize the pipelines and infrastructure that power analytics, machine learning, and product decision-making across the company.
You’ll own distributed data systems end-to-end—from ingestion and streaming to orchestration, CI/CD, observability, and cloud infrastructure. You’ll collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Data Science, and business teams to deliver reliable, high-quality data products and set the long-term direction for Roadie’s data platform.
This is a highly collaborative role that blends hands-on data engineering with architecture, system design, and strategic input.
What You’ll Do
- Architect, build, and scale real-time and batch ETL/ELT pipelines that ensure consistent, accurate, and reliable data across the organization
- Design and develop the underlying data platform and infrastructure, including streaming systems, orchestration frameworks, observability, CI/CD automation, and cloud environments
- Partner with engineering, data science, and business teams to deliver high-impact data products and enable data-driven decision making
Own production readiness and operational excellence for data systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root-cause analysis - Drive best practices around data quality, lineage, documentation, testing, and governance across the engineering org
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance scalability, reliability, developer velocity, and cost efficiency
- Contribute to long-term platform architecture, including data modeling standards, storage strategies, compute design, and data product lifecycle management

What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 6+ years of experience in Data Engineering or backend engineering roles with significant data focus
- 4+ years building data infrastructure and distributed platforms using streaming frameworks such as Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, or Spark Structured Streaming
- 4+ years working with CI/CD tooling to automate builds, testing, and deployments
- 4+ years operating DevOps tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, Helm, Terraform, etc., with ownership of end-to-end deployment for data systems
- 4+ years of development experience with languages/frameworks such as Python, Scala, Spark, PySpark, Java, or Hadoop
- 4+ years developing and optimizing dbt models, implementing best practices, and ensuring excellence through testing, version control, and documentation
- 4+ years hands-on work with orchestration tools (Airflow/Dagster/Luigi)
- Deep understanding of data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) and streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub).
- Experience with data governance, observability, and monitoring frameworks
- Experience with OLAP datastores such as Clickhouse/Apache Pinot/DuckDB
- Familiarity with BI and visualization tools such as Redash, Superset, Tableau, Lightdash, or Power BI
- Experience scaling production systems in fast-paced or high-growth environments
- Experience participating in on-call rotations for data or infrastructure systems
Bonus
- Experience with AI/ML/LLM/MCP/agentic-AI workloads
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with modern streaming formats (Delta, Hudi, Iceberg)
- Application and front end development experience
