Senior DevOps Engineer

Robots & Pencils is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to support a large-scale, high-complexity digital transformation project for a multi-venue hospitality and entertainment organization. 

You will help architect and operate a modern, cloud-native platform powering web, mobile, and kiosk applications, integrations with numerous legacy systems, a headless CMS (Contentful), customer data platform, and a scalable middleware/API layer built with MuleSoft. 
This role is ideal for an experienced DevOps professional who thrives in complex distributed environments and enjoys enabling product teams to deliver fast, securely, and reliably. 

You’ll collaborate closely with software engineers, architects, QA, experience designers, and data engineers, contributing to end-to-end product slices that enable personalized guest journeys and seamless cross-property experiences. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

CI/CD Pipeline Development & Automation 

  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting cloud-native applications across multiple environments. 
  • Integrate automated testing, security scanning, artifact management, and environment promotion workflows. 
  • Continuously improve pipeline performance, reliability, and deployment speed. 

Cloud Infrastructure & IaC 

  • Architect, deploy, and manage scalable, resilient infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, or similar). 
  • Support deployments across cloud platforms and distributed systems used within the project’s architecture. 
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and environment lifecycle management. 

Platform Operations & System Integration 

  • Operate and optimize cloud-native workloads powering web (Vercel), middleware (MuleSoft), and CMS (Contentful) layers. 
  • Support integrations with legacy and third-party systems, ensuring reliability across environments. 
  • Collaborate in debugging deployment, performance, and integration issues end-to-end. 

Monitoring, Observability & Optimization 

  • Set up and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK). 
  • Improve system reliability, performance, and availability across user-facing and backend services. 
  • Optimize cloud costs, scaling mechanisms, environment footprint, and pipeline efficiency. 

Security, Governance & Best Practices 

  • Embed security controls into pipelines and infrastructure following DevSecOps practices. 
  • Enforce standards for access control, secrets management, compliance, and auditability. 
  • Promote operational excellence, reliability engineering, and proactive risk mitigation. 

Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership 

  • Collaborate closely with developers, architects, QA, and product teams across the SDLC. 
  • Serve as a trusted technical partner to both internal and client stakeholders. 
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and DevOps best practices within the engineering org. 

 

Required Skills & Experience 

  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, infrastructure engineering, or similar roles. 
  • Strong programming/scripting skills (Python, Bash, Go, or similar). 
  • Expert-level experience with: 
  • CI/CD platforms (GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI) 
  • Containerization & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) 
  • Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), cloud-native architectures 
  • Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) 
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices deployment, and API-driven architectures. 
  • Hands-on experience with observability stacks and performance tuning. 
  • Experience supporting large-scale or high-complexity enterprise environments. 
  • Experience working in Agile teams using tools such as Jira, Confluence. 
  • Upper-Intermediate English — strong communication for cross-functional collaboration. 

 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience with Vercel, MuleSoft, or headless CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful). 
  • Background in supporting middleware or event-driven architectures. 
  • Experience with security automation or compliance frameworks. 
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP). 
  • Experience optimizing CI/CD for multi-team, multi-service environments.
