
Data Engineer
Location: Lviv, Ukraine
Robots & Pencils is seeking a Data Engineer (L4) to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team building a modern, unified digital experience platform for a large multi-venue hospitality and entertainment organization.
In this role, you will implement and maintain data pipelines, platform integrations, and backend services that enable personalized guest journeys, real-time itinerary orchestration, and seamless cross-property experiences. You will collaborate closely with architects, backend/front-end engineers, platform engineers, and product teams to deliver complete end-to-end product slices.
This role is ideal for a data engineer with strong cloud-native development experience, expertise in data modeling, integration, and pipeline design, and a product mindset focused on quality, reliability, and iterative delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Development
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable data pipelines supporting web, mobile, and kiosk applications.
- Transform and integrate data from multiple legacy and third-party systems into the Customer Data Platform and middleware/API layer (MuleSoft).
- Enable real-time and batch data processing to support personalized user experiences.
Data Integration & API Support
- Integrate backend data services with front-end applications (React/Next.js), headless CMS (Contentful), and middleware layers.
- Collaborate with platform and backend engineers to define data contracts, APIs, and event flows.
- Support analytics, reporting, and operational data consumption across teams.
Cloud-Native Engineering & Reliability
- Implement cloud-native services ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Build monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions for data services and pipelines.
- Contribute to CI/CD workflows and automation for data deployment and maintenance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with architects, platform engineers, backend/frontend engineers, and product managers to deliver complete feature slices.
- Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
- Advocate for data quality, governance, and platform best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional experience in data engineering or backend development with focus on data pipelines and integration.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and cloud-native design principles.
- Proficiency with data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, API integration, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience working with middleware/API platforms (MuleSoft) and headless CMS (Contentful) is a plus.
- Solid SQL and NoSQL skills; familiarity with relational and/or document-based databases.
- Experience in data flow orchestration, batch & real-time processing, and API-driven integrations.
- Upper-Intermediate English.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Vercel and front-end integration requirements.
- Experience with real-time streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Event Hub).
- Background in personalization, cross-channel user experiences, or large-scale distributed systems.
- Exposure to multi-venue, enterprise-level digital platforms.
