Data QA Engineer (Data Quality & Validation)

Robots & Pencils is seeking a Data QA / Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary engineering team building a modern, unified digital experience platform for a large multi-venue hospitality and entertainment organization. 

In this role, you will ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency of data across multiple systems, pipelines, and applications. You will validate data flows between backend services, middleware, APIs, and front-end applications, enabling personalized guest experiences, real-time itinerary orchestration, and seamless cross-property services. 

This position is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, hands-on experience in data validation, testing, and quality assurance, and a product-oriented mindset focused on high-quality, reliable data delivery. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Data Quality & Validation 

  • Develop and execute data validation strategies, test plans, and QA processes for structured and unstructured data. 
  • Ensure integrity, accuracy, and completeness of data across web, mobile, and kiosk applications. 
  • Validate data flows between Customer Data Platforms (CDPs), headless CMS (Contentful), middleware/API layers (MuleSoft), and analytics systems. 
  • Identify, document, and track data discrepancies or anomalies to resolution. 

Automated & Manual Testing 

  • Build and maintain automated data validation scripts and ETL testing pipelines. 
  • Perform manual validation and exploratory testing for critical data transformations and integrations. 
  • Support regression testing of data pipelines and services to ensure consistency after changes or deployments. 

Collaboration & Process Improvement 

  • Partner with data engineers, platform engineers, backend/frontend engineers, and product teams to define data validation requirements. 
  • Contribute to data quality standards, metrics, and reporting to stakeholders. 
  • Advocate for data integrity, governance, and observability across all platform layers. 

Monitoring & Observability 

  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboards for data health and pipeline reliability. 
  • Continuously review and improve data quality processes to ensure scalable, production-ready data services. 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering, data QA, or data validation roles. 
  • Strong SQL and/or scripting skills (Python, JavaScript, or similar) for data extraction, transformation, and testing. 
  • Experience validating ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, and cloud-native data services. 
  • Familiarity with middleware platforms (MuleSoft), headless CMS (Contentful), and modern cloud hosting (e.g., Vercel). 
  • Knowledge of data modeling, relational and NoSQL databases, and data governance best practices. 
  • Upper-Intermediate English. 

 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience with data observability tools, automated testing frameworks, or data quality platforms. 
  • Familiarity with real-time streaming data pipelines and event-driven systems. 
  • Exposure to analytics, personalization, and cross-system data integration.
