About the Role

As a Flying Probe Test Engineer at Rocket EMS, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing flying probe test solutions to verify the electrical integrity and functionality of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). You will support both New Product Introduction (NPI) and volume production by creating efficient, repeatable test programs that ensure product quality, reduce escapes, and improve overall test coverage. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on experience with flying probe systems, and close collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams in a high-reliability manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret schematics, CAD data, bills of materials (BOMs), test requirements, ECOs, and customer specifications prior to test development or execution.

  • Develop, program, and optimize flying probe test programs to validate electrical continuity, component presence, orientation, polarity, and basic functionality.

  • Set up, operate, and maintain flying probe test systems, fixtures (as applicable), and supporting software.

  • Debug test failures and perform root-cause analysis on failed PCBAs; document findings and escalate complex issues to senior engineering staff as needed.

  • Ensure accurate and complete recording of test results in travelers, databases, and production reports.

  • Support NPI builds by rapidly developing test coverage, validating programs, and transitioning stable test solutions into production.

  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality to resolve testability, coverage, and yield issues.

  • Create and maintain test documentation, including test procedures, coverage reports, and debug guidelines.

  • Generate and review Technical Inquiries (TIs) for unclear, missing, or conflicting requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with ESD, safety, IPC, and company quality standards at all times.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on test coverage, throughput, yield, and false-call reduction.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (required).

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience in electronics test engineering.

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in electronics testing, troubleshooting, or test engineering within a manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on experience with flying probe test systems (e.g., SPEA, Acculogic, Seica, or similar) strongly preferred.

  • Experience supporting NPI and production test in a PCBA manufacturing setting.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of PCB assemblies, electronic components, and circuit fundamentals.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, netlists, and technical documentation.

  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).

  • Familiarity with test software, databases, and manufacturing execution systems (MES).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
