Conformal Coating Technician

Position Summary

The Conformal Coating Technician is responsible for applying conformal coatings to sub-assemblies and assembled printed circuit boards using both automated coating systems and manual processes. This role supports New Product Introduction (NPI) and established production programs, ensuring coatings meet customer, quality, and reliability requirements while supporting production schedules and cycle time objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, create, and maintain conformal coating machine profiles and programs to meet customer and product requirements.

  • Set up, operate, and monitor conformal coating equipment, including coating machines, curing ovens, and masking systems.

  • Perform manual and automated application of conformal coatings in accordance with approved processes and work instructions.

  • Maintain and perform basic preventive maintenance on coating machinery and related equipment.

  • Apply, inspect, and remove tape and masking materials from circuit boards per product specifications.

  • Perform in-process inspections to verify coating coverage, workmanship, and compliance with specifications.

  • Perform rework and touch-up operations on assemblies as required to meet quality standards.

  • Ensure conformal coating records, logs, and production documentation are accurate, complete, and properly maintained.

  • Read, interpret, and follow electronic work instructions, procedures, and assembly drawings.

  • Complete assigned tasks within established labor standards and production schedules.

  • Maintain required training, certifications, and process qualifications.

  • Follow ESD, safety, and cleanliness requirements at all times.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of business objectives.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, or a minimum of one year of experience in electronics manufacturing or a similar production environment.

  • Knowledge of or experience with IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 standards preferred.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to safely and proficiently use microscopes or magnification tools in conjunction with small hand tools.

  • Solid understanding of ESD requirements in an electronics manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting assembly drawings and electronic work instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

  • Comfortable working in a controlled manufacturing environment involving solvents and coating materials.

  • Basic computer proficiency for labor tracking and review of electronic documentation.

  • Ability to operate and interface with industrial equipment using Microsoft Windows–based systems.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
