About the Role
Rocket Travel by Agoda is the strategic partnerships arm of Agoda and its affiliate Rocket Travel, Inc., both of which are part of Booking Holdings (NASDAQ: BKNG). Rocket Travel by Agoda partners with global brands to bring their customers rewarding and engaging travel experiences that deliver value, maximize rewards, and build customer loyalty for partners’ brands. Rocket Travel by Agoda is looking for a Commercial Counsel to join our growing US-based Legal team. We are seeking a confident, talented and self-motivated lawyer to join the larger Agoda Legal team with a dedicated focus to support the commercial legal needs of Rocket Travel by Agoda.
While much of the role will require close collaboration with Rocket Travel by Agoda colleagues, this is an opportunity that extends to the entire global Agoda business and the chance to work with the growing Agoda Legal team, largely based in Bangkok, Thailand. This role reports directly to Rocket Travel by Agoda’s Senior Commercial Counsel and is based in the New York City area, with a hybrid working model that encourages an in-office presence at least two (2) days per week. You will get to work closely with senior stakeholders at both Agoda and Rocket Travel by Agoda, the Head of Legal for Agoda Americas/Managing Counsel of Rocket Travel by Agoda, as well as lawyers around the globe from our family of Booking Holdings brands.
In this specialized Commercial Counsel role, you will be given the chance to mold this position to suit the business needs, with a primary focus on supporting tech-focused product and service deals for Rocket Travel by Agoda’s global partnerships. In both leading and supporting roles, you will be expected to negotiate and navigate the contracting process from the first business development meetings to the final execution copies; from basic legal principles to complex subject-matter specific areas and business-critical commercial terms. You will help to evaluate strategic and advantageous business options, while managing and mitigating risks to Rocket Travel by Agoda.
Lead Software Engineer
Duties: Work closely with engineering management team as a product owner to drive the team’s technical direction to support our business outcomes. Guide one or more engineering teams to solve complex problems with elegant solutions that are maintainable, easy to understand and easy to onboard new engineers. Mentor engineers of varying experience and skills to help develop their technical skills. Deliver integrated solutions working with engineering, product and other technology leaders, including customer loyalty teams and partnerships. Research and propose new technologies to set technical direction for parts of the organization. Scope large projects and break work into manageable, deliverable milestones. Act as the key technology engineer for Partner launches. Empathize with the partner experience while maintaining quality and sustainability within the development process. Continuously improve team processes, tooling and quality in partnership with engineering managers and directors.
Requirements: Requires Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or related field of study, and 5 years of working experience in any job title/occupation/position developing performance-critical applications that run in a production environment using Scala or Java. Experience specified must include 3 years of experience with each of the following: working with relational databases and SQL; leading the design, development, and support of new functional capabilities and the modernization of existing implementations; large-scale global projects serving world markets with distributed data centers and localization of data; and queueing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or MSMQ). The experience specified must also include 2 years of experience technically mentoring engineers at various levels. Telecommuting permitted.
