We are seeking a hands-on Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) to lead and implement best-in-class safety programs at Rondo Energy. This role is critical in ensuring rigorous quality control and safety assurance across our manufacturing, product assembly operations, and Alameda, CA headquarters. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with deep expertise in HSE systems, combined with the ability to operate tactically in a fast-paced startup environment.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):
Safety Leadership
- Champion a strong HSE culture through internal communications, training, and daily practices.
Team & Program Development
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of HSE professionals supporting construction, operations, and maintenance sites.
- Establish and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to measure performance and ensure timely action close-outs.
Safety Program Ownership
- Lead Rondo’s safety program, ensuring ownership of behaviors across all departments.
- Ensure full compliance with OSHA, CAL/OSHA, and local regulations; maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies.
Risk Management & Continuous Improvement
- Lead incident investigations using techniques such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys to drive systemic improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering and delivery teams to assess and reduce design and operational risks.
- Use insights from project execution and data to identify trends and implement continuous improvements in HSE practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Conduct periodic audits and inspections to ensure compliance and proactively identify improvement opportunities.
What You Will Bring
- 10+ years of experience in progressive HSE roles, ideally in EPC or manufacturing environments.
- Proven leadership in building and managing HSE teams across multiple sites and geographies.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing standardized processes and systems across organizations.
- Deep understanding of federal and state safety regulations and standards.
- Experience participating in or leading HAZID/HAZOP and Management of Change (MoC) activities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement an Integrated Management System.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels.
- Willingness to travel up to 30%.
This role requires being on-site Alameda, California. The estimated annual salary range for a candidate in the Bay Area for this role is between $180,000 and $240,000, plus equity in an early-stage, rapidly scaling global company. Additionally, you would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels, experience, and geographic locations.
