Director of Sales and Business Development, Middle East

Dubai, UAE

The role

Rondo's thermal batteries turn low cost electricity into stored heat and power, and the Middle East is one of its most important growth regions. This role works hand in hand with the Senior Director, Middle East across the full regional commercial agenda. You will support the region's flagship industrial and NOC pursuits, and you will take the lead on your own accounts, primarily in the power sector, where Rondo's power-to-power storage and power generation applications open a new market. The focus is the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman, with opportunities pursued across the wider Middle East as they arise.

What you will do

  • Lead the power sector accounts. Own relationships and pursuits with utilities, single buyers and procurers, IPPs and renewable developers. Position Rondo in storage tenders, firm renewable power programs and behind the meter projects, and carry these accounts yourself from first meeting to close.
  • Support the flagship pursuits. Work alongside the Senior Director on the region's largest industrial and NOC opportunities (steam, cogeneration and gas turbine replacement), owning workstreams, stakeholder follow through, analysis and proposals.
  • Get in the door. Use your network, relationship skills and persistence to earn access to decision makers and technical owners at customers, government entities and partners, including those that are hard to reach.
  • Run the full funnel. Qualify opportunities rigorously, lead techno-economic discussions with client engineers, shape proposals with Rondo's application engineering team, and drive deals through negotiation to signature.
  • Develop the markets. Map tariffs, grid codes, procurement rounds, incentives and decision makers in each priority country, test opportunities in the wider region, and feed a clear view into Rondo's regional strategy.
  • Build the ecosystem. Bring in EPCs, solar IPPs, developers and financiers who can take projects to FID, and represent Rondo with government, regulators and industry forums.

What you bring

  • Power sector background (essential). At least 10 years in the power sector with a utility, IPP, developer or power equipment OEM (gas turbines, BESS, grid), including substantial time in sales, origination or business development.
  • Strong technical foundation. Engineering degree required. You can read a single line diagram, a heat and mass balance and a dispatch model, and you are credible in the room with client engineers. You understand PPAs, tariffs, capacity payments, LCOE and LCOS.
  • Power systems fluency. A solid understanding of how power systems are planned and operated, and experience working with the results of PLEXOS or similar production cost and capacity expansion modelling. You know what drives total system economics (generation mix, reserve and flexibility needs, curtailment, network constraints, fuel displacement and avoided capacity) and can place a storage project's value in that context.
  • Networking skill and grit. A strong regional network and a talent for building new relationships quickly, with the persistence to get into organizations that do not open easily. A record of creating pipeline where the technology was unfamiliar to the buyer.
  • Full funnel experience. You have personally taken large energy or infrastructure deals from first contact to signed contract in the Gulf.
  • Team player who can lead. Comfortable supporting a senior colleague on one account and owning another outright, in a fast moving, venture backed company.
  • Education and language. MBA a plus. Fluent English required; Arabic strongly preferred.
  • Nice to have. Gas turbine experience (sales, project development or operations), energy storage (battery or thermal), industrial steam and cogeneration, or selling new technology to NOCs and utilities.

The role must be based in Dubai. Applicants must be entitled to work in this location - VISA sponsorships or relocation costs cannot be supported at this time.
