About the Role

As Roo continues to grow and evolve as the leading veterinary relief platform, we are looking to add an ambitious Business Development Manager to drive market expansion and operational excellence. The BDM will identify new acquisition opportunities, support strategic initiatives, and develop sales tactics to enhance market growth and stability. Acting as an advisor, leader, and technical expert, the BDM will collaborate across functions to foster accountability, optimize performance, and align with Roo’s goals

This role operates remotely, with occasional travel for in-person events to support relationship-building efforts and market engagement. As a fast-paced startup, this role requires adaptability to change, a proactive approach to challenges, and a positive attitude to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Your Responsibilities

Strategic Plan and Execution

  • Develop and execute strategic plans for new user growth within your territory.
  • Create and maintain a detailed business plan, updated regularly to reflect progress, changes, and new strategies.
  • Collaborate with peers and leadership to refine and adapt strategies to meet performance objectives.

User Engagement & Onboarding

  • Attract and onboard new veterinarians to the Roo platform through proactive outreach and development activities.
  • Ensure all onboarding documentation is complete and accurate, including key information in the onboarding playbook.
  • Support new user shift fulfillment, guiding them through booking and completing their initial shifts using the platform
  • Re-engage past users to the platform who have not requested or completed a shift on the platform for at least 180 days.
  • Efficiently manage sales pipeline to move prospective Roo users to acquired customer status.

Relationship Management

  • Lead and coordinate user recruitment events in partnership with marketing team (continuing education events, lunches, dinners, happy hours, etc).
  • Ensure user engagement and satisfaction on the Roo platform, working cross-functionally to proactively address challenges or resolve user issues.
  • Act as an expert on Roo’s platform, providing targeted guidance to Roo users as needed to drive engagement.

Reporting & Metrics

  • Create quarterly sales plans aligned with functional and company level objectives, and track relevant metrics internally to own progress and react accordingly
  • Regularly track and share market insights with regional and senior leadership

Communication, Excellence & Growth

  • Actively contribute to team discussions, sharing best practices and successes.
  • Collaborate effectively within cross-functional squads, ensuring alignment with squad-level OKRs and objectives, and holding yourself accountable for contributions to shared goals.
  • Strive to exceed targets through proactive, innovative, and solution-oriented efforts.

About You

  • 3+ years successful field/remote sales experience; Veterinary healthcare or start up experience a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred (Business/Sales)
  • Demonstrated success in prospecting, pre-call planning, and deal closure.
  • Self-starter mindset with strong individual motivation and a positive, can-do attitude to tackle challenges and drive results independently.
  • Proven ability to solve problems using analysis of data.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team-oriented sales skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, persuade and influence, with compassion.
  • Proficient with Google modalities, CMS (e.g., Hubspot), quick learner of new technologies.
  • Strong, influential verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional maturity, adaptability to varied environments.
  • Ability to execute sales strategies while maintaining flexibility in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong logical reasoning skills and passion for results.
  • Ability to train peers on sales processes and use collateral and assets effectively.
  • Impeccable time management skills, and ability manage daily and weekly schedule to adapt to changing priorities self-sufficiently
  • Willing to travel when needed for in-person events, including occasional overnight
  • Located within or near the Mid-Atlantic corridor (DC, Baltimore, VA Beach, Richmond) or able to operate successfully in those markets.

Since this role will be covering the mid atlantic region you must be based on an East Coast timezone. The base compensation range is $85,000 - $120,000 depending on exact location.
