About RTW Foundation (RTWF)
RTW Foundation (RTWF) was founded in 2018 as the philanthropic arm of RTW Investments, LP a biotech investment firm. RTWF has two major focuses: improving health equity in New York City and advancing ultra-rare disease research. Our overarching goal is to improve the health of underserved communities, whether that be from historically underinvested communities in New York City (including communities of color and migrant populations) to patients and families facing ultra-rare diseases.
Program Overview
We are seeking highly motivated individuals for a Research Internship starting in June. This unique opportunity is designed for those with a keen interest in biomedical research, rare diseases, and drug development.
Interns will conduct focused literature reviews on 1–2 rare or ultra-rare diseases, synthesizing existing knowledge and mapping the research landscape. These efforts will support the development of strategic research roadmaps and initiatives within the RTWF Rare Disease Advising Program (RDAP). Through this internship, participants will gain hands-on experience evaluating scientific data, identifying key stakeholders in rare disease drug development, and contributing to therapeutic prioritization efforts in partnership with rare disease foundations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews and landscape analyses to assess existing research, key stakeholders, and past or ongoing drug development efforts.
- Develop disease concept models and research roadmaps to guide strategic planning for rare disease foundations.
- Contribute to therapeutic prioritization efforts by assessing potential research or drug development opportunities.
- Stay informed on emerging trends in rare disease research, drug development, and regulatory landscapes.
- Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and strategic recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Graduate students or advanced undergraduate students in biomedical sciences, genetics, pharmacology, immunology, neuroscience, or related fields.
- Strong research skills, with experience reviewing complex biological processes or diseases.
- Familiarity with preclinical research tools and/or the fundamentals of drug development.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Highly detail-oriented, proactive, and organized.
- Ability to synthesize complex scientific data into clear, actionable insights.

This is a full-time paid 9-week internship based in NYC.

In accordance with New York City’s Pay Transparency Law, the weekly salary range for this position will be $1400 - $1800.
