
Senior Tax Accountant

Role Summary:
The Tax Department handles a great deal of tasks on behalf of the Company and its investors. The Senior Tax Accountant will provide direct support to the Director of Tax/AVP, Tax Manager to ensure the Company meets its tax filing obligations, with the goal of minimizing the Company’s exposure to taxing authorities. The Senior Tax Accountant will support the efforts of the team to ensure that the Company complies with all applicable laws and tax code provisions, particularly related to the Real Estate Investment Trusts that are in the organizational structure. All of this is to be done in a manner consistent with the vision, mission, and values articulated in the Company’s Core Ideology.
Principle Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with managing the tax compliance process for the complex chain of entities within the Company that includes multiple Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), complex Funds, among other investment vehicles
- Keep track of and coordinate with external tax return preparers the filing obligations of each of the Company’s entities, to ensure that the Company is filing all required tax returns in each applicable jurisdiction
- Prepare one off workpapers, estimates, and other tax reporting deliverables as required
- Maintain compliance with REIT regulations by overseeing quarterly asset tests and annual income tests, addressing inquiries from third-party service providers about questionable items across the Company’s owned and operated REITs
- Oversee vendor management for tax-related vendors, collaborating with various internal departments to ensure accurate payment application and reconcile aging reports
- Collaborate with other members of the Tax Department to implement and maintain effective internal controls over various department functions
- Support ongoing departmental initiatives to automate outdated processes and tracking mechanisms as required
- Assist in various aspects of tax planning and consulting, as required
- Address diverse tax inquiries from the Company’s investor base and other reporting requirements, as directed by the Tax Manager
- Aid team members as required to support Tax Department and the Company’s overall objectives
Preferred Qualifications and Attributes
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent field is required, MS/MBA in Taxation preferred
- CPA preferred, but not required
- 3-5 years of related accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience with partnership and REIT taxation issues
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be intelligent, highly organized, motivated, and a self-starter
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects
- Personable, able to deal within the framework of a large organization and work with others as a team player
- Strong analytical skills, with a focus on detail and the ability to deliver an organized work-product
The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a team member's base salary/rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g. location, years of service, specialty, education, relevant experience).
Bonus eligible.
Pay Range
$110,000 - $125,000 USD
