Excavation & Trenching SME – Construction, TX

Join us in our expansion of SME services in a critical role for ensuring excavation and trenching safety compliance at a large-scale construction facility. Seeking candidates who enjoy a fast-paced construction site with a strong focus on efficiency & risk mitigation.
Responsibilities:
- The SME will provide guidance on safe digging practices, soil analysis, shoring systems, and OSHA regulatory compliance.
- Supports risk assessments, training, and on-site evaluations to mitigate excavation-related hazards.
- Provide expert-level knowledge in excavation and trenching operations across construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA 1926 Subpart P, NFPA, and local excavation regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments, soil classification, and trench safety evaluations.
- Train and mentor construction teams on excavation best practices and hazard mitigation.
- Review plans, permits, and safety procedures to ensure efficient and compliant excavation work.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to optimize safety and productivity.
- Oversee protective systems such as shoring, shielding, sloping, and benching.
- Lead incident investigations related to excavation and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance documentation, safety records, and reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician), or CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional)
- Extensive experience in excavation, trenching, and underground construction.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Subpart P, NFPA, and local excavation regulations.
- Proven ability to assess and mitigate excavation-related hazards.
- Experience with protective systems (shoring, shielding, sloping, benching).
- Ability to train and lead teams in excavation safety best practices.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in large-scale semiconductor or industrial construction projects.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Local to Austin Metro area.
