Commissioning Lead, HI
Safety Worxs is seeking a Commissioning Lead who will be instrumental in overseeing the construction and commissioning of surface facilities for a large scale construction project in Honolulu, Hawaii. This role is critical in ensuring all systems, structures, and equipment meet project specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements. The Commissioning Lead will manage timelines, documentation, and handovers, coordinating closely with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery in compliance with federal, state, and company standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and process systems.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and readiness protocols.
- Establish, implement, and oversee Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and isolation procedures during commissioning phases.
- Integrate commissioning and start-up activities into the overall project schedule.
- Interface with construction, operations, and HSE teams to ensure safe handover of systems.
- Track and resolve punch lists (deficiency items).
- Issue daily/weekly commissioning progress reports to project leadership.
- Conduct walkdowns, inspections, and performance testing to confirm systems meet operational and safety requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during commissioning and start-up.
- Provide regular reporting on progress, challenges, and risk mitigation.
- Provide post-commissioning support, including warranty follow-up and operational troubleshooting.
- Deliver training for site personnel and contractors on commissioning procedures.
- Manage documentation and apply management-of-change protocols for scope deviations.
- Ensure compliance with EM-385-1-1 standards and applicable regulations.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in commissioning, construction, or facility start-up.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline or equivalent years of industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of commissioning processes, systems integration, and construction standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in LOTO and isolation procedures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
- Must be able to pass a DBIDs background check (required for site access).
Preferred:
- Professional certifications such as PMP, CSP or CxA.
- 15+ years of combined commissioning and construction experience.
- Familiarity with federal or large-scale infrastructure standards.
- Experience in facility and infrastructure commissioning (utilities, mechanical, electrical, or marine systems).
