Revenue & Project Accounting Oversight

  • Standardize revenue recognition policies across retainers, time and materials, milestone contracts, and performance-based incentives.
  • Oversee WIP calculations, accrued revenue, deferred revenue, and contract liabilities.
  • Ensure CRM and project management systems reconcile accurately to the general ledger.
  • Monitor gross versus net media treatment and margin consistency by client and service line.
  • Improve visibility into revenue quality and margin performance across agencies.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls and segregation of duties.
  • Prepare for and manage the annual audit process, ensuring clean audits with minimal adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with US sales tax and Canadian GST/HST/QST requirements.
  • Oversee risk management processes and strengthen audit readiness across entities.

Working Capital & Cash Discipline

  • Monitor DSO, DPO, and WIP aging to support disciplined working capital management.
  • Oversee AR reserve methodology and billing accuracy, targeting billing error rates below 1%.
  • Support cash forecasting through accurate accruals and timely financial reporting.
  • Drive improvements in collections visibility and revenue conversion.

Team Leadership & Scalable Infrastructure

  • Lead and mentor a team of 8–15 accounting professionals, including Accounting Managers and Senior Accountants.
  • Build performance dashboards and KPIs to measure close efficiency, margin visibility, and control effectiveness.
  • Drive automation initiatives within ERP and reporting tools to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Standardize accounting processes and reporting structures across agencies.
  • Lead accounting integration efforts for acquired agencies, normalizing policies, systems, and reporting structures.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • CPA designation (US or Canada required).
  • 10–15 years of progressive accounting experience, including multi-entity consolidation.
  • 5+ years managing and developing accounting teams.
  • Experience within marketing agency, media, or professional services environments.
  • Strong background in project-based and percentage-of-completion revenue accounting.
  • Deep understanding of internal controls, audit processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven ability to build scalable accounting infrastructure to support growth and M&A.
  • Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving, and growth-oriented environment.
