Principal Engineer, Technology Standardization
Lab Summary: The Digital Media Solutions Lab at Samsung Research America is developing innovative and advanced core technologies related to video and audio systems.
Position Summary: The Standards & Business department promotes a stable commercialization environment for Samsung TVs and other products through standards development and industry support for product deployment. It promotes the use of Samsung technologies through collaboration and coordination with broadcast and related industries.
Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Chief Standards Strategist, the incumbent provides input on overall strategy and planning for standardization and industry collaboration and support. The incumbent:
- Exerts influence in standardization
- Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC)
- Leadership and effective participation in ATSC 3.0/NEXTGEN TV standards maintenance and evolution (expansion), development of Regional Operating Profiles, etc.
- Consumer Technology Association (CTA)
- Leadership and effective participation in ATSC 3.0 TV Recommended Practices, video/audio standards, HDMI/CTA-861, etc.
- Standardization of IAMF Audio over HDMI
- Leadership and effective participation in relevant standards development in CTA
- Other
- g., NABA Technical Committee (regional standards and practices for broadcast)
- Helps facilitate Deployment of ATSC 3.0 TV Product
- NEXTGEN TV Specifications, Certification Requirements and Testing (ATSC IT-3 Conformance, NEXTGEN TV Logo Program)
- Negotiation with management of Logo program and 3rd party testing services (e.g., Resillion)
- ATSC 3.0 Security Authority (A3SA) Specifications, Certification Requirements and Testing
- Negotiation with management of A3SA program and 3rd party testing services (e.g., Resillion)
- Run3TV Testing for ATSC 3.0 Broadcast Application Framework and Applications
- Coordination with broadcasters and CE companies (CTA TVMC TV Manufacturers Caucus Testing and Test Maintenance groups, PearlTV, Sinclair Broadcast, etc.)
- NEXTGEN TV Specifications, Certification Requirements and Testing (ATSC IT-3 Conformance, NEXTGEN TV Logo Program)
- Helps promote deployment and expanded footprint for Samsung technology (e.g., HDR10+, MMT, etc.) in TV broadcast
- Collaboration and coordination with broadcasters, e.g., PearlTV (TV Networks and 800+ TV stations)
- Assists in promotion (e.g., CES, NABShow, etc.)
- Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC)
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or in a discipline relevant to broadcast/CE/ Media/ Entertainment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (minimal level of education required)
- 14+ years of direct and relevant experience in broadcast/CE/Media/Entertainment standardization at Manager/Director level
Special Attributes:
- Experience in ATSC, CTA and other groups related to the broadcast industry (e.g. SMPTE, NABA, CTA WAVE, ITU, IEC, SCTE, DASH-IF, etc.)
Base Pay Range
$236,000 - $273,000 USD
