Director of UX - Samsung Global UX Studio
Lab Summary
Based in New York, Samsung’s Global UX Studio is an independent design and research studio that explores emerging customer, cultural, design, and technology trends to design, build, and share a joyful, people-centered future for mobile product experiences, looking 3 to 5 years out.
Position Summary:
As the Director of UX, you lead a world-class team of designers and creative technologists to define the future for Samsung’s Galaxy mobile devices and for the One UI experience that powers them.
You’re a curious explorer, leader, and driver of change who uses hands-on invention to create exciting, articulate visions of tomorrow and the strategies that will make them a reality. You inspire, engage, and collaborate with the studio, with teams across Samsung, with executive stakeholders, and with outside agencies. You report to the Head of Global UX Studio.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic creative leadership
- Draw from user insights, technological capabilities, and business needs to recognize strategic opportunities, proactively pitch new ideas, and own experience concept development, from ideation to execution
- Lead the planning and strategic exploration of projects through strategy frameworks, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes for digital and physical interfaces
- Articulate a future vision for mobile experiences and a roadmap to get there
Craft leadership
- Lead, build, and develop a high-performing team of designers and technologists
- Promote excellent design and ways of working, both within the Studio and throughout Samsung
Stakeholder partnership and collaboration
- Communicate fluidly and effectively with design and product leadership stakeholders to inspire and influence
- Drive cross-team collaboration among designers, researchers, and creative technologists within the Global UX Studio; partner with teams across Samsung and external agencies
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, or equivalent required. Master’s or PhD preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- 16+ years of User Experience, HCI, Interaction Design, or combination as a foundation
- 3+ years’ experience in leading and managing small-to-medium multi-disciplinary UX teams
- Experience with design innovation, incubation, or startup environments, working with emerging consumer technologies and products
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts and generate enthusiasm among senior stakeholders
- Storytelling skills and the ability to create compelling narratives using visual tools
- Experience managing outside agencies
- A portfolio that demonstrates past work in innovative interface design including but not limited to OS, mobile, web, AR/VR, multimodal, voice etc.
Base Pay Range
$224,200 - $348,250 USD
